AUBURN----Auburn junior guard Rasheem Barrett was named the SEC Player of the Week after totaling 25 points, four rebounds, four assists, two steals and a block in the Tigers' 89-59 victory at Charleston Southern, the Southeastern Conference announced Monday.
Barrett came into the game shooting 37 percent from the field and 28 percent from 3-point range before turning in his 10-of-13 shooting from the field (.769) and 3-of-5 from 3-point range (.600).
"It is good to see Rasheem getting rewarded because he has been practicing really well the last two to three weeks," said Lebo.
"It showed in his game last week, and he shot the ball at a high percentage. It is a nice honor for him to receive this early in the season."
Barrett's 25 points were a season-high, three off his career high. The Atlanta, Ga., native is averaging 14.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game this year while shooting 49 percent from the field and 35 percent from 3-point range.
"I couldn't do it without my teammates," said Barrett. "Anyone who says they can get player of the week, player of the month or player of the year by themselves is lying. If I didn't have the great teammates that I have right now in Korvotney Barber, Quantez Robertson, DeWayne Reed and Frank Tolbert, I wouldn*t get this award. I give the award to them. This award is not mine, it is my teammates."
