It's a final. Harlem Globetrotters win 80-76 over the Generals. A great night of basketball was had by all. It was really a special Grand Opening. Here's hoping for many more memories in this new building for many years to come.

Special K leads the comeback as they tie it at 76 and he tricks a General to take a 78-76 lead with under a minute left.

A little boy named Jackson comes out on the court and makes a shot and gets a standing ovation from the crowd. He's does a great dance move too. He's gets a Special K jersey. No one expected him to make the shot, not even the Globetrotters. It's 73-68 Generals lead.

Time is winding down and the Generals have a 70-66 lead with 3:29 left.

A little YMCA led by the Globetrotters between the 3rd and 4th periods. Really got the kids remaining into the action. See if the Generals can pull this one off and force Special K to wear a green jersey.

At the end of three periods the Globetrotters lead 64-54. If the Globetrotters lose, Special K has to become a member of the Generals. If the Generals lose, their head coach must wear a hot dog costume with extra mustard.

Great tear away uniform worn by a Generals player as Special K strips him as he's going in for a layup. Globetrotters up 15-11 with 5:05 left in first. Lots over laughter and smiles brought to the crowd, along with amazing dunks.

Head coach Tony Barbee's second promotion. For every home game a student will shoot for free tuition for the semester. In 25 seconds, the contestant must make a free throw, a lay up, a 3-point and a half court.

Head coach Tony Barbee and the Auburn Tigers have been introduced. The crowd is tremendous and this place is really loud. Couple of surprises for the students from Barbee. At every home basketball game, Tony Barbee will pay for the books for one student for a semester.
Coach Barbee got a nice video visit from coach Bruiser Flint of Drexel, UMass coach Derek Kellogg and Kentucky coach John Calipari. Coach Cal said he's glad he doesn't have to visit this year. He did get a nice round of Boo's though.

Charles Barkley is on the floor talking to the crowd. Said he enjoyed this week cause Alabama finally lost. He's honored to be here and wants the football team to kick Arkansas' butt tomorrow.

The women's basketball team has left the floor after their introductions, dunking on a short goal and 3-point shooting exhibition. Then Aubie did a cool hip-hop dance number. It's no wonder he's the top mascot in the nation and a Hall of Famer to boot. Great job!

The seats are beginning to fill up quickly with a few more opening ceremonies honoring a long-time fan, the Beard-Eaves family and a dance routine by the Tiger Paws before the women's team takes the court at 7:15. The men will come out at 7:50. Heard a rumor that Charles Barkley might be in the house. We'll see.

BTU defeats Fiji for the inaugural Tony Barbee "Battle on the Plains" 3-on-3 championship, 22-20. At 7 p.m. there will be an arena video followed by the fireworks.

The seats are beginning to fill up and BTU leads Fiji 10-7 with under 15 minutes left in their game.

The doors have opened and the rush for the good seats has begun. Indoor fireworks are on tap for tonight as the firing device is mounted on top of the goal.

Friday, Oct. 15, 2010, is a historic day in Auburn Athletics as the newly constructed Auburn Arena was officially opened by University President Jay Gogue, Board of Trustee member John Blackwell, Athletics Director Jay Jacobs and men's and women's basketball coaches Tony Barbee and Nell Fortner, respectively.
The ribbon cutting took place on the north lawn in front of the main entrance to the Arena. Below are some scenes from the ribbon cutting ceremony.
