AUBURN - Auburn head coach Jeff Lebo, the former North Carolina standout, still has some game left as he led the Tigers' coaching staff to the 3-on-3 tournament championship Saturday in Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum.
The coaching staff combo of Lebo, associate head coach John Cooper, director of basketball operations John Searby and manager Brett Howell tag-teamed a 12-8 win over former Tigers Nathan Watson and Jamaal Arnold along with classmate Rodney Anderson.
The student trio won the 3-on-3 championship that included 15 other teams consisting of Auburn University students, faculty and staff. Watson, Arnold and Anderson was the last remaining team standing at 11:30 pm Friday, earning the right to play the coaching staff Saturday for the overall title.
"It was a lot of fun and thank goodness it was only halfcourt," Lebo said. "My legs are still feeling it."
Lebo showed his old moves from his Carolina playing days as he went down the lane, ball-faked Watson, en route to a finger roll layup. Cooper drained a 3-pointer in the corner to send the game to game-point. Lebo then nailed the game-winning 15-footer from the left corner for the title. Howell's defense helped hold Watson, who had an outstanding Auburn career, at bay.
