LOS ANGELES -- Auburn's all-time leading scorer, Chuck Person, won the 2010 NBA Championship as a Los Angeles Lakers assistant coach Thursday as the Lakers defeated the Boston Celtics and fellow Tiger Marquis Daniels 83-79 in Game 7 at the Staples Center.

It is the first NBA title for any Auburn player and Person's first in his 20 years in the NBA as a player, assistant coach and executive.

"I am so happy for the players and all of their hard work throughout this season," Person said. "We had a target on us all season long as defending champions, and the guys took it to another level. This was a very hard-fought seven game series, and the Celtics gave us everything they had.

"It is a wonderful feeling being a part of such a world class organization with the Lakers, and this was a tremendous thrill. It is definitely special being a part of my first NBA Championship."

Daniels did not play in Game 7 for the Celtics as he was coming back from a concussion, but he was dressed out for the game. This was Daniels' second NBA Finals appearance as he was a member of the Dallas Mavericks, losers to the Miami Heat in 2006.
