TJ Lang, a 6-foot-7 swingman from Mobile, has signed a financial agreement to join the Auburn basketball team for the 2014-15 season, assistant coach Tony Jones announced on Wednesday.
"Our staff is very excited about TJ joining our basketball program," Jones said. "When coach Pearl got the Auburn job, one of his first assertions was to recruit the state of Alabama, and signing TJ brings that statement to fruition. T.J. will add depth to our perimeter and his skill set fits our style of play on the offensive end."
Lang played high school at McGill-Toolen, averaging 19 points, eight rebounds and three assists as a senior after averaging 17.1 points and 4.9 rebounds per as a junior. Lang led the team to a 25-7 record and the South Regional finals as a junior and then led the team to an appearance in the Class 6A, Area 2 championship game as a senior as the team went 19-10. He was named to the AWSA Class 6A Second Team as a senior after being a First Team selection as a junior, when he was also the Mobile Press-Register Coastal Alabama Player of the Year.
"We are excited to sign a player of TJ's caliber and character," assistant coach Chuck Person said. "He will help us reestablish the excitement and tradition of Auburn basketball. TJ will bring to our program a great skill set, a high basketball IQ and a great ability to shoot the basketball. Our staff is excited that TJ is from the state of Alabama and he wanted to be a student-athlete at Auburn University."
Lang is the son of Antonio Lang, who played at Duke from 1990-94, played professionally in the NBA as well as overseas.
