Antoine Mason will take another shot with Auburn

AUBURN, Ala. -- Senior Antoine Mason has returned to Auburn to finish what he signed up to do.

The basketball's team second-leading scorer, who missed the last two games following the death of his father, returned to campus Sunday night and will play in Wednesday's SEC Tournament opener against Mississippi State.

"It says a lot about Antoine and a lot about our team that he would be able to come back and play in the tournament," said Auburn coach Bruce Pearl on Monday.

Mason flew to New York three times to be with his father, former NBA standout Anthony Mason, who suffered complications from a heart attack. He died on Feb. 28 and his funeral was last Friday.

Mason, a senior who transferred in from Niagara before the season, returns to Auburn averaging 15.1 points per game. He was missed in last week's two-point loss to Missouri and three-point loss Georgia.

"It's great to have him back after a difficult's still a difficult time for him," Pearl said.

"He's been going through a lot," said guard KT Harrell. "It's just good to see him."

Pearl said Mason has barely practiced the last few weeks.

"I can't imagine him playing as dominant role as he played at times. But we'll get him in there, get him in the rotation and know in a lot of ways we're better with him on the floor," Pearl said.
