Coach Jeff Lebo
"We played well defensively. We had a lot of looks offensively, but we couldn't put the ball in the bucket. It is frustrating, but we gutted it out. (Korvotney) Barber and (Josh) Dollard had a lot of turnovers and that concerns me. We went through all of the motions in the second half. This was the first time that we actually hit two three pointers in a row.
Southern came out aggressive and ready to play. We got two fouls in the first minute and a half of the game. That set the tone for the rest of the game. We have to get more confident in our shooting. The coaches can only do so much; it is up to the guys to put it in the bucket. Frank (Tolbert) missed the dunk at the beginning of the second half. That killed the momentum. The game was really physical, odd things happened that usually happen on the road. It was hard for us to get the flow started for whatever reason." Charleston
On setting positions...
"I have a good feel for that. Quan (Prowell) can play the three, four or five for us. He had to make adjustments to where we put him. He is eager to get out there and play. We still have not seen his best on the court. We've seen better at practice from him."
On the team...
"We are still a little away from being the best we can be, and are still figuring it out. There are five or six guys that we can count on and then it also depends if they are ready to play that day. We have enough guys to reward them when they play well defensively with more time on the court. We are getting much better offensively, but we are still getting beat off of the ball."
"Getting beat like that happens in basketball. We would have lost no matter what team we played shooting like we did. There was a stretch where it mushroomed out of control. We are a better team than that. It hurt us, and it is supposed to hurt. It was probably on our minds a little this game."
Forward Quan Prowell
On feeling comfortable on the court...
"I'm starting to feel a lot more comfortable than the first game. I didn't really play as much because of the fouls, but coach put me in the lineup and rotated me in there. I am getting enough time to where I am getting used to playing again and getting ready for the SEC season."
Southern Quotes Charleston
Southern Head Coach Barclay Radebaugh Charleston
On the game ...
"I thought we played very hard. It was the hardest we have played since we played
Southern Calon Dec. 17th. It was a 38 or 39 minute effort. There was very little time when we weren't playing hard out there. "
Southern's schedule... Charleston
"My heart hurts for this team a little bit. We have a very difficult schedule, and it has been a while since we have won. Maybe it was dumb scheduling. I think I have put my team in a little bit of a bind having nine new players. I may have been a little ambitious."
Southern's defense ... Charleston
"We played very hard defensively. I told them before the game that I wanted them to still be hustling off the floor at the end of the game. Our competitiveness was outstanding and so was our effort."
