Auburn Coach Jeff Lebo
On having a full team...
"It was nice to have some depth out there. It was nice to see Quan (Prowell) and Kelvin (Lewis) back out there. Quan only played nine minutes in the game, but I thought that he played pretty well out there for the first time being out there for a pretty long time. He only had three rebounds and he looked good. It was nice to see. Kelvin is slowly getting back in it. He is the one that has been the hardest to come back because he hasn't practiced for three to four weeks. We are slowly getting him back to full speed. It was nice to have some decisions to make on the bench. I told the guys in practice that we were going to be back to full speed and if they don't go out there and perform and execute and give me some defense, you are going to sit. That is the first time that we've had that here. That is nice to have. I think that we'll get better that way. It's not being mean, but I think that is going to help them get better. This gave some guys who haven't had an opportunity to play some minutes a chance to get in there. I told them to let the game come to you. We experimented a little, and played guys who haven't played a lot. We were able to rest some guys. Quantez (Robertson) played 15 minutes. I don't know if there has been a game in his career where he has just played 15 minutes. We will need him the next game."
On the freshman guards...
They (Lewis and Reed) played pretty well. We wanted to get Kelvin some minutes if we could this game and we did. I thought that he passed the ball pretty well. DeWayne Reed made some terrific decisions on the break. Reed, in the last two games, is 10-0 assist to turnovers. We had 26 assists. We passed the ball pretty well, and made the extra passes. We didn't shoot the ball great, but we moved the ball and got the open looks. About a week ago, we seemed to pass the ball much better. We haven't played against severe heat yet, but we will next game. We'll see how we do there."
On Korvotney Barber...
"He has improved. He's taking high-percentage shots. If he would have caught a couple of balls I think that he would have had 23-24 points. He still left some points on the foul line, but he is getting better. He has made a positive jump. We still need to get him better defensively and to teach him how to block shots with the right hand."
Forward Quan Prowell
"I had a couple of jitter bugs out there. I got them out pretty soon and got back in the flow of things. Unfortunately, I had to foul out. Hopefully the next game I will be back to normal. It may take a couple of games to get back in the flow of things. I have been sitting out a long time, so just getting back into the game is good."
On playing in a game for the first time in two seasons...
"It felt great just being back with the team on game day instead of being off to the side. It felt good just sitting on the bench and interacting with them."
On his thoughts leading up to the game...
"I was just concentrating on what I bring to the table for the team, and how I would accomplish that. Yesterday was a real energetic day for me. I was so hyped up about the game. I went to sleep early, waiting for this day to come. It was a good experience."
Guard Kelvin Lewis
On playing in the game...
"It felt pretty good. I had a whole bunch of confidence coming in, because we finally had everyone back, and practice has been great. We came out really hard. We had energy, and that's what helped us get this one."
On being 100 percent...
"In about a couple of more weeks and I will be full speed."
Tennessee State Quotes
TSU Head Coach Cy Alexander
On the game...
"I was very impressed with how hard
played tonight. They out-toughed us and outplayed us. We are coming off a 10-day layoff and I think it showed. We have to get back to work and get ready for our next game." Auburn
They play as hard as any team I have seen. We didn't show much toughness, but that
Auburnteam can play with anybody in the SEC if they continue to show that kind of heart."
TSU Forward Clarence Matthews
On the game...
"From a defensive standpoint, we have to focus better. Our problems tonight were mostly mental. You can't compete with teams like this when the effort isn't there, and our effort wasn't there tonight."
