Josh Dollard just missed the first triple-double in school history with a season-high 16 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists to lead Auburn to an 86-59 victory over Tennessee State in Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum Tuesday.
"It was nice to see Quan (Prowell) and Kelvin (Lewis) back out there to add some depth," head coach Jeff Lebo said. "I thought Quan played pretty well out there and Kelvin is slowly getting back in it."
Korvotney Barber added 17 points and nine rebounds in only 23 minutes for Auburn (9-3) while Frank Tolbert totaled 12 and Kelvin Lewis added 10 in his second game of the season after a stress fracture in his right foot. Quan Prowell had six points and three rebounds in nine minutes in his first game of the season.
"Korvotney has improved," Lebo said. "He is taking high-percentage shots, but he still left some points on the foul line."
Auburn tied a season high with 11 three-pointers for the second-straight game. Tennessee State (4-5) were led by Moraye Ivy's 15 points, while Ladarious Weaver added 13.
After leading 39-28 at the half, Auburn stretched its lead to as many as 37 at 77-40 with 6:11 remaining, by shooting 53.1 percent (17-of-32) from the field in the second half.
A Tolbert three-pointer gave Auburn the lead for good at 6-4 lead just over three minutes into the game. Auburn used a 9-0 run over 1:37 to take a 17-6 advantage.
Auburn hoisted a season-high 34 three-point attempts and committed a season-low 11 turnovers.Auburn will be close out its pre-Christmas schedule Friday as it plays host to No. 13 Texas A&M at 7 p.m. at Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum. Tickets are $5 each.
