Auburn Head Coach Tony Barbee

On tonight's game...

"I am pleased that we won. North Florida is a good team. They took Kansas State on the road into overtime and had a chance to win that game. What I saw on that game tape is that they play hard. I told their coach after the game that he should be proud of his team for how hard he gets them to play. We were playing catch up tonight and trying to match their intensity. When you do that, you are behind everything that the other team is doing. We won. We shot 50 percent. We outrebounded them by nine. But, they are a team that didn't press us until the last minute and half in the game, and forced us into 15 turnovers. I am disappointed in that way, but I am happy with the win. We are 6-1 and the guys are working hard. I keep telling them that I want more. It is not about beating North Florida. It is about long-term for the rest of the season. If they want more, they have to do more. They have to play harder with more focus and intensity from start to finish."

On foul trouble...

"We had foul trouble. We had to go offense-to-defense with Rob Chubb and Kenny Gabriel in the first half. We are pretty versatile, and now as we start to get some guys back, we get some depth and more guys in the rotation. That allowed us to do more things tonight."

On getting to the free throw line 43 times...

"We got there. That is about all I can say positive about the foul line. You can't shoot 65 percent. We were good in the first half. Free throws are all about confidence and focus. We work on technique and all those things. I want them to be unselfish, but I allow them to be selfish in two areas, rebounding and free throws. I want them to be selfish pigs in those areas. I want you to go to the free throw line and make them all. We closed them out, which is good, but I want more."

On Josh Langford coming back...

"He's rusty, but what you did see is a bigger wing with athleticism and speed who can make plays with those things. Now he just needs to catch up with what we are doing. I like what he brings to the floor. He got seven points in 12 minutes. He will get better, and help our team."

On the status Noel Johnson and Cedrick McAfee ...

"They both went through practice yesterday and shootaround today, and looked good. It was a game where Josh Langford had been practicing, so once he came off the suspension, he was ready to go. Cedrick and Noel haven't been, so a practice and a half is not enough for me to have confidence to throw them in. Hopefully with another day tomorrow, they will be able to go on Monday and step in the rotation."

On Allen Payne not playing...

"He hadn't been playing well. In the last two games, in 30 minutes total, the only stat he has is three fouls. He hasn't scored. He hasn't rebound. He hasn't gotten an assist or a steal in 30 minutes. You have to earn your right to get shots and get opportunities. He hadn't the past two games, and that is why I gave Josh Langford the opportunity in this game."

On Kenny Gabriel's performance...

"He was just OK. He had 15 and 13 and didn't play very well. Stats lie all the time. This stat sheet doesn't tell the true story. He didn't play tough and physical. We gave up offensive rebounds. He gave up layups on the other end of the floor. He had 15 and 13, and I am telling you he didn't play well. I think he is better than what he's playing. I don't think that is a bad thing."

Auburn Player Quotes

Verez Ward, So., G

On hitting a 3-pointer when the teams were tied at 47 to give Auburn some momentum...

"Yeah I felt that. I wanted to go out there and set the tone, so that's why I kind of picked up on the ball pressure on the ball and just try to pick everybody up on defense. Everybody went along with that, and we closed it out."

On not being satisfied and still being 6-1...

"Nobody is content with this 6-1 record. We all feel that we're supposed to be 7-0. That's what we're looking at going into the next couple of games. We're looking at wining until conference play rolls around, and then we'll see how it goes from there."

On getting players back from suspension and injury and adding fresh bodies to the roster...

"That's going to add a lot of depth to our team because with more bodies, we're able to play harder and we're able to do some more things with everybody coming back. That's really going to help us in the long run. I felt that if we'd had those guys in the Seton Hall game, that also would have helped us versus them too because we would've been able to play a lot more up tempo versus those guys."

On North Florida making Auburn increase its intensity in the second half...

"North Florida came out, and they were really disrespected. I knew Coach (Barbee) said they were going to come out hard, but going into that game I don't think we had the right mindset in the first half, and we had to pick it up in the second half to recover from our first half."

Rob Chubb, Jr., C

On it being a physical game...

"They were playing hard because they knew that we could usually score in the post. Today, I kind of had my hook shot off a little bit so just kind of had to play through adversity. I had to pick it up on the defensive end and rebounding."

On having a career high in rebounding...

"On the boards, I noticed pretty early that my hook shots and my touch usually around the basket wasn't all there tonight. I was just having to pick it up in other parts of the game to do whatever I can for my team."

North Florida Head Coach Matthew Driscoll

Opening statement ...

"Obviously, turnovers kill you when you have them in crucial stages. When you have all of these back-to-back three-point plays those are crucial moments in the game. We fouled way too much. I think that was the most fouls we had all season. I don't know why. When another team shoots 43 free throws it's going to be difficult to do a lot of things. We scored 71 points, you'd think that would be enough for us to come out with a victory, but not when they're getting to the line that much. We have to do a better job at playing defense and not fouling as much."

On what UNF can take away from loss ...

"When we guard well, we're as good as anybody. We might not be as good as some of the high-ranked teams, but the teams like Miami, Kansas State, Auburn, you know, the programs that aren't big-time programs. We can guard against those guys. The only things we struggled with were key turnovers. They had some big blocked shots too and that was tough for us to overcome. We had some good looks and some pretty good shots, but give them credit because they worked hard and got to the free throw line."

On Auburn forward Kenny Gabriel's hot start ...

"When you only give up one three, you're obviously always going to be in the game, but if you go 10-for-15 in the first half from the free throw line then you raise the percent in your game. It's frustrating because it was, at times, a five-point game to a three-point game to a tie game and we went 50 percent from the free throw line and how we are able to do that sometimes is beyond me. If we can figure out a way to correct those things then we got a pretty good chance. I'm just disappointed, because just like with Kansas State, I expect to win."
