Auburn Quotes

Head Coach Jeff Lebo

"Nicholls State played awfully well, and they shot the ball well tonight. We didn't. They were up by 17 or 19 to start the game. They were making shots from everywhere. We got down and we struggled to put the ball in the basket. We also struggled defensively at times. We started out by switching a lot of their screens. They spread you out and they can pass the ball very well. They have been playing without their best player, Stefan Blaszcynski. He is a difference maker for them and he played well tonight. I think he had 27 (points) and 10 (rebounds). Finally in the second half we got going and we started making some shots. At the end of the game we finally made some free throws which was good to see. I think we were 12 of 13 at the end of the game. They made some big shots at the end to put the game in to overtime."

"I thought we looked a little fatigued to start the game. DeWayne Reed did a nice job of getting us going in the second half. He had a couple of steals out front and he got some buckets. Josh also gave us some minutes. He was fatigued out there. Once he gets in shape, he can score around the basket for us. Korvotney (Barber) played a terrific first half. He had 19 points in the first half. He was 21 (points) and 10 (rebounds) in 33 minutes. We turned the ball over too much. Frank (Tolbert) had zero assists and five turnovers. It was nice to see Rasheem make two big threes. He was 0 for 4 on threes and then made two big ones in the second half to get us going. Teams are going to zone on us and we are going to have to make perimeter shots. We really struggled tonight. We were 5 of 25 shooting the basketball. They went 13 of 25 shooting threes and that is a great equalizer in college basketball. They certainly made them tonight"

On Josh Dollard...
"He scored some points but he was fatigued out there. He couldn't breathe. Unless you play the game, the anxiety and the fatigue the first couple of times you go up is incredible until you get back in to it. I told him that I didn't want him to go out hunting. I wanted him to let things come to him. That was one of the reasons that he didn't shoot in the first half. Defensively, he had some break downs. It was his first game back and he scored 13 points and got us some buckets around the basket. He has a lot of skill. He can make foul shots and he can score for us out there. It will be nice to have another scorer out there."

On the defense...
"In the second half, we tried to do some things against their spread. In the first half our defense was pathetic. In the second half we went away from our zone because they were making shots against it and we played more man-to-man with no switching. That seemed to be a little better."

Quantez Robertson, #23

On the shot leading to overtime...
"We couldn't get the rebounds. We couldn't get our hands on them for some reason. It just fell in his hands and he hit the three."

On traps in second half...
"They broke through some of our traps. We weren't closing our traps together. We tried in the second half to tighten them up a little bit and give our defense enough time to rotate around."

Josh Dollard, #3

On being back...
"It feels good to be back with the team. I've watched them play hard, play their hearts out and play game-by-game. It feels good to be back and be able to help them out in a win. We just need to work hard and make it to the top of the SEC."

On feeling in sync with the rest of the team...
"I didn't really feel in sync. I tried not to go out there and do too much. I just tried to work my way into the game. I wanted to do all I could to help the team. I'm just trying to get back into the rhythm of the game, because it has been a long time since I've played."

On his lack of shooting in the first half ...
"I tried not to do too much. I tried to get into the flow of the game, because I didn't want to go out there and rush anything."

On second half...
"I did feel more comfortable second half. I started making a couple of shots and got into the game a little bit more. My team started to pick me up and the defense played hard. The crowd was behind us, so I got into the game."

Korvotney Barber, #32

On coming back from being down 17 points...
"We turned it up on defense. Rasheem (Barrett) and Archie (Miaway) started making shots during the second half. We really started communicating. Like Josh said, the crowd got behind us and we fed off their energy."

On the rest of Auburn's games...
"We can play against anybody if we just play hard. We just need to take good shots."

Nicholls State Quotes

Coach J.P. Piper

On the game...
"I am really proud of the team. I thought that they played a heck of a game. I felt like we had a chance to win, but we couldn't hold it. We seem like we are getting better each week and that is all I can ask for. We are shorthanded and missing some bodies, but they continue to come out and lay it on the line and play their guts out every night. They took a SEC team to overtime. There is a great moral victory in that for me because it is progress. We wish we could have won, but it was just not the way it worked out tonight. Auburn had 19 second chance points tonight and that is too many. Sometimes it felt like they shot until they scored. We don't get that opportunity on the other end."

On the team...
"Stefan (Blaszczynski) is a heck of a player. We are not surprised by anything that he did out there tonight. I still think that he is a little rusty, but I think he will continue to get better. It is only his second game and he is trying to learn his teammates. Doing what he is right not speak highly of him and of the team. They come out and play. I think that we were surprised to find ourselves in the position to win tonight. We might be trying to bite off a little more than we can chew in playing an SEC team."

On Auburn...
"I wish we hadn't had that collision with (Rasheem) Barrett. That seemed to light a spark. We made a mistake as a coaching staff in giving them a little too much credit for their ability to shoot the ball behind the arc. We geared up to try to take away the perimeter and let (Korvotney) Barber go inside early. They were one for 12 at halftime behind the arc so we made that adjustment at halftime. We wanted to make them beat us from behind the perimeter. Unfortunately they hit some big shots down the stretch. They were shooting the three ball well. To Auburn's credit they beat us by shooting threes, and that made the difference down the stretch. The reason these guys are at Auburn is because they can make plays down the stretch. They certainly did that tonight when the game was on the line. Our hats are off to them."

Forward, Ryan Bathie

On Auburn...
"They are very competitive. I thought we had them in the first half. They came out in the second half and matched our intensity. They caught a few breaks and were able to get back in the game."

On being able to force overtime...
"To let them back in the game wasn't too good, but we competed pretty hard and were able to get back. We caught a lucky break with Stefan's (Blaszczynski) shot at the end that forced overtime."

On free throw shooting...
"That probably is what killed us. Auburn made theirs and that is where probably the game was decided down the stretch."
