Auburn Coach Jeff Lebo
"It wasn't a great game by any stretch of the imagination. We did a good job on (
) Hicks. He was probably the best player and he didn't score a bucket in the game, but (Andrew) Jones did a good job out there and shot the ball extremely well. We shot poorly and turned it over too much. We never got into any kind of flow in the game. They zoned us a lot and spread us out. We had a hard time and didn't have anybody on the inside to throw the ball to consistently. We had to rely on the outside shooting, and it wasn't particularly good." Alton
On foul shots...
"Korvotney (Barber) continues to struggle from the line. Rasheem (Barrett) shot it well. Archie (Miaway) has been struggling from the foul line early. Lucas missed a bunch in the game, so we're missing three point shots and then we're going to the line and missing two. It's something we've got to get better at because the boys we're playing against are about to get a little bit bigger."
On where the team is now...
"I don't think we played well at all during the first half tonight. We didn't shoot very well and we didn't pass very well. We just went through the motions tonight, but against
we did some good things. I thought we did well defensively against Winston-Salem State during the second half. The best full game I think we have had so far was against East Tennessee State ." Winston-Salem State
On Frank Tolbert...
"Frank gives us energy, leadership and experience out there. He's athletic and knows what we want to do. He played half the game, and when he and the other guys are out fatigued, we have freshmen on the court. That can be a little deadly."
On sluggish offense...
"I think they have shot poorly in the last couple of games. We are hurting in rebounding. They (
) had 18 offensive rebounds on us." Miles College
Auburn Player Quotes
Auburn Guard Frank Tolbert
On the freshmen...
"We try to tell them everyday that the games will get more physical and we will play guys that are much better. We tell them that they have to play their best every night."
On his game...
"I think that I get a little too aggressive at times. I have to know when to calm down and let things go. On the run, I think most of the points came from defensive. We played some great defense and I was the one open for the layups. I credit our defense for that."
On stepping up competition...
"I feel that we are ready. We are still trying to get the freshmen there. They are not there yet, but almost are. We are just trying to hold down the fort until we get the rest of our guys back. When we get them back, I think that we will be a tough team to deal with."
Auburn Guard Quantez Robertson
On playing the two...
"It is giving me a lot more chanced to shoot the ball this year and running the floor like I really want to do. I have a point guard that is going to run the floor with me now. I feel that it is better for me right now playing the two. Today I played the two 60-40. DeWayne Reed was doing pretty good out there on offense and defense. I guess coach thought that he could play the one and I could play the two."
Miles Head Coach Chris Giles
"I thought we played well in spurts, and at times we lost control and lost our composure. We made some uncharacteristic plays. We turned the ball over a lot. We made some uncharacteristic fouls. We have to do a better job of keeping our composure. We made some mistakes right in the middle of the game, especially in the second half. Anytime you lose three starters to fouls, you will have a problem. We only have 10 players, so you lose three of them, and you're in trouble. Our guys battled back. They fought hard all the way to the end. It was still a 14-point game with five minutes left. I'm proud of our guys. No one expected us to be where we are. Each day I tell them to get better and do your best in each game. How many teams would have come in here and played an SEC-caliber team the way we did to a 19-point game? We took the lead in the first half. I'm proud of my guys. We played hard."
On taking the lead in the first half...
"The first half we made shots. Our guys made shots. At one time we made five out of six threes in that little stretch where we took the lead, but we couldn't maintain it. We got in foul trouble and had some fatigue. In the second half we didn't make a lot of shots that we made in the first half. Fatigue set in and we couldn't make any shots."
On playing against
"It means a lot to our program, because our kids know they can play a team like
, an SEC team. That's what we are trying to do. We are trying to make sure that if we get to the next level, especially in our league, this will help us. All we are trying to do is get better and trying to improve on what we do. A game like this really helps us." Auburn
Miles Guard Andrew Jones
"I think that the guys that fouled out hurt us a little bit. We came in wanting to get better as a team. The other team was a real good team, though, a real good team."
On the first half...
"We switched to five guards and that helped us hit our perimeter shots. They were a much stronger team, and we couldn't hold that lead. With people fouling out, we couldn't hold it up, be we had a good run."
On playing against
"It was a lot of fun. I felt like I was a Division I player. I really enjoyed it. It was a fun experience even though we lost. I would love to do it again."
