Auburn Head Coach Jeff Lebo
"Defensively in the second half we were pretty decent. We shot the ball very poorly in this game and East Tennessee had a lot to do with that. We had some looks, but we just couldn't get the ball in the basket, especially in the first half."
"The defense intensity in the second half was much better. DeWayne Reed created some havoc on the ball. He and Quantez (Robertson) together, in the second half, were factors in the game defensively. We finally got some balls in the basket even though we shot the ball poorly. We found a way to win and I think we were very lucky to win."
"We made some dumb plays down the stretch. We missed a free throw to go up by seven late in the game and then we got a tip out on a nice play. We took a shot with 1:22 to go instead of just holding it and making them foul us. If we make both of the shots we go up by nine and then the game could be over by that point. We go down and foul and instead of being up nine at that point we are up by three. We can't make those kinds of mistakes. I am more concerned about the shot that we took with 1:22 left than I am about the foul. We made a lot of mistakes but we found a way to win. Quantez was terrific to go 40 minutes out there. That was good. It was hard when Frank got two quick fouls in the first half and only played seven minutes in the first half. We need him out there."
Auburn Forward Korvotney Barber
On the team's shooting slumps...
We get in them at times. When that happens, we start talking to each other and try to throw the ball down low and be patient, and then we start making more shots.
It's going to help a lot, because I get tired. We need more offense on the inside. I try to hold my own, but it's going to help a lot.
Auburn Guard Quantez Robertson
On the second half...
We started off very slowly through the first half. We got in the locker room and talked amongst each other and told each other what we needed to do. That fired us up and we came back.
On the team's shooting slumps...
We just have to try and get a layup or try to get fouled to get ourselves back in the ballgame. They've got to help us out a little bit more on defense, and get us an easier shot or better shots.
ETSU Coach Murry Bartow
On the game... "I thought we did some good things. We competed hard. We were up 11 at the half, and we knew the first five minutes of the second half would be critical. They came right back at us instead of us extending our lead. I think we had something like seven turnovers in the first four minutes of the second half."
On Auburn's defense in the second half... "I think you have to give credit where credit is due. Their defensive pressure was good, but we made a lot of unforced errors. You guys saw the same game I did. We threw some balls where there weren't any people to catch them."
ETSU Guard Courtney Pigram
On having a lead at the half... "I thought we were going to pull it out in the second half. We just couldn't handle the ball under pressure."
On the teams' three point shooting... "It was big. It helped us to surge out in front quickly. We needed to do the same in the second half and we didn't come out that way."
On if an SEC opponent is a good early season challenge... "No. It's just another game. It doesn't matter who we're playing. We just have to come out and play hard."
