Auburn vs. IPFW IPFW Head Coach Tony Jasick
November 9, 2012
IPFW Head Coach Tony Jasick
On tonight's game...
"It has been the story of our Fall up to this point. We have to play quality basketball for longer minutes. I felt as if we played well for 32 or 33 minutes, which is probably 10 more minutes than what we played in our exhibition. On the road in this environment, you can't allow the slippage we had the last five minutes. A couple of our core principles got broken late. We don't want to give up any threes. We gave up two threes, and that started their run. We don't want to give up any transition baskets. We have some things to work on. Offensively, we struggled in the last four minutes with their zone. Auburn's zone was effective late, and we didn't attack it the way that we would like to, but that's going to happen."
On how effective Auburn's zone was ...
"We got to standing. We have some guys who can make shots, but they didn't tonight. When you don't make shots then you start to hesitate and question yourself."
On Frank Gaines scoring a career-high 32 points...
"I thought he was efficient. He took a couple shots early where I thought we could get a better one. Frank is a good player and as he continues to grow as a leader, I think our team will grow. I think we have more weapons on our team than we showed tonight which is going to help us after tonight. Frank is a good player."
On how this game will help the team later in the season...
"We have a young team. We started four guys who didn't start at all for us last year. When you have those kind of guys and bring them into this kind of environment, doing some good things and having some struggles, I don't think it can hurt you. Obviously, trust me, we wanted to win this game, but I think if you get small minded about it, it will cause you some problems. So we will break it down and learn from it and maybe not make some of the mistakes that plagued us late."
Frank Gaines, G, Jr.
On tonight's game...
"I thought we played hard. Some plays didn't happen for us in the last eight minutes of the game. We lost."
On scoring a career-high 32 points...
"I was on point on offense. Pierre (Bland) and Isaiah (McCray) were able to find me and without them I wouldn't be able to get those shots."
On the toughness of Auburn's zone...
"We hadn't really practiced it. We were standing still a lot. We will fix that problem."
On what he can learn from this game...
"We can learn to play hard for 40 minutes."
