Postgame Quotes vs. Texas A&M

Feb. 20, 2013

Box Score

Auburn Head Coach Tony Barbee

On what happened in the second half...

"We couldn't make a shot. It is hard to win the game shooting 26 percent (in the second half). At the same time, we guarded fairly well and they shot 55 percent in the second half. We are not a very good team right now. I am not being a very good coach with this team. It is just disappointing."

On Frankie Sullivan struggling at point guard...

"There aren't any other options on this team other than Josh Wallace. It just makes it hard when people don't guard him because then you are playing 4-on-5 offensively. It is hard to get anything done at that point."

On making a lot of substitutions this game...

"Guys aren't playing well so they have to come out of the game. If they aren't going to defend, they are going to come right out of the game. If they aren't going to dive for loose balls on the floor, they are going to come right out of the game. If they don't pursue every rebound, they are going to come right out of the game. That is why."

On if the team is playing tight knowing they will come out after a mistake...

"It is not a mistake. Effort, hustle, desire, passion and energy are not mistakes. Forgetting a play or not getting where you are supposed to go are mistakes. Not coming up with loose balls or diving on the floor when it's around your feet, and they have three guys on the floor and you are standing at it, that is not a mistake. That is a lack of desire."

Is that something he would be willing to change...

"No. That is how I coach. They've known that since I recruited them. They have heard that since the first day of preseason. The guys that have been with me for two or three seasons have heard it every single game and practice. It is not a surprise."

On if there is anyone he can trust on the team...

"Collectively the effort is not good, and the leadership is not good. The leadership is back on the staff, and I told these players from day one, when the leadership comes from the staff, then you aren't going to be a very good team. It is when the players take ownership. I told them it doesn't have to come from these seniors, because obviously our seniors aren't doing it. They aren't taking ownership. It doesn't have to be your seniors. I am waiting for someone to grab it, and no one is stepping up."

On how he will go about these next few weeks...

"I am going to keep fighting, because that is what I am. I am going to find out who is going to fight with me."

Texas A&M Head Coach Billy Kennedy

Opening Statement...

"It was a great character win. To have two guys come off the bench in Jarod Jahns and Blake Mcdonald and have quality units with everyone else giving great production, I was really proud of this team."

On the slow start...

"I thought we had great shots in the beginning, we just missed a lot of layups. We had great shots inside. If we weren't getting good shots we would've called a timeout, but I wanted to play through it. I knew there would be some times like that during this game, and fortunately that was the only segment that we struggled in."

On senior Elston Turner...

"When Elston Turner gets 20 points we win, but it's hard to get 20 when teams do a good job defending him. He shared the ball tonight and he had good support from everybody else."
