Recap |  Box Score

Auburn Head Coach Jeff Lebo

Opening comments...
"I was disappointed in there. We certainly played well to win the game. Finishing out the game we did not do what we needed to do to win. We had some tough breaks at the end that didn't go our way that hurt us. (Dee) Bost hurt us at the point position tonight. He was good. He must have had thirty points or close to it, but we didn"t do a good job guarding him tonight.

On the offensive output of Mississippi State guard Dee Bost...
"Dee Bost ended up with thirty-two points and that was the difference in the game. (DeWayne) Reed really struggled tonight offensively and defensively. He guarded Bost and that was pretty much the difference in the game. He made shots fi rst of all. He is hard to guard. He has been struggling shooting the ball. Tonight he was 7-for-12. Last year he hurt us in both games. He hurt us again tonight."

20-Frankie Sullivan; So. G

On the lack of offensive momentum in overtime...
"They played great defense and we definitely did not execute our sets. We took some tough shots and had a lot of turnovers."

On energy late in the game...
"I do not think any of us were too fatigued but it just came down to the will to win and I believe they wanted it more than us tonight. We have to start taking advantage of the opportunities we give ourselves to make plays."

On the frustration of back-to-back overtime losses...
"It did not come from the last two minutes but from the whole ball game. We did not box out and they would sometimes get fi ve or six chances at the rim. They kept making their shots after a foul and we were slow getting back during the transition. Their efforts showed at the end of the game and ours did not."

Mississippi State Head Coach Rick Stansbury

Opening Comments...

"Give Jeff (Lebo) a lot of credit. He has done a great job with his team and just come up short in a few very good games. They are a very difficult team to defend and probably one of the toughest in this league to defend. Our concerns were played out in the fi rst half. We knew coming off a big emotional game against Ole Miss with a quick turnaround that we might not be at our best, and if you aren't at your best, you get beat. To our players" credit though, they battled. Once we got down fourteen, Dee Bost made a few shots to get us back in it. After that, our defense picked up. After the first ten or twelve minutes we were better. Barry (Stewart) did an outstanding job on (Tay) Waller. Then coming down the stretch, we just had to find a way. In a sixteen game schedule, you won't be at your best every night."

On Dee Bost's effectiveness tonight...
"It's like us hitting those two early three's against Ole Miss. If I knew what made him do that, I wouldn't be here. It was very obvious that Dee got in a rhythm when he got going. He attacked with a lot of confidence and made a lot of plays. If I had the answer for sure, I'd bottle it up and pull it back out Tuesday night."

On the defensive effort in overtime...
"In the overtime period they were 0-for-9. A lot of it was their fatigue. With us being the home team, we had a little more energy. We scored the first five before they were able to get on the board and that gave us even a little more energy."

On the development of Romero Osby in SEC play...
"He played a good many minutes against Ole Miss. He came in once we had that lead and I felt very comfortable with his defensive effort. He's a very different guy from the rest of our lineup. We don't have much thickness on our team; he's one guy that gives you a little thickness out there."

03-Dee Bost; So. G

On his overall performance tonight...
"You know I just felt it tonight. I had a lot of confidence and I just kept playing hard. We started out a little sluggish and fell behind sixteen or seventeen points, and I felt like I had to get something going."

On Tuesday's matchup with nationally-ranked Kentucky...
"We are just going to have to take it to another level. This is a good win but we are going to have a tough game on Tuesday. We just have to work hard and prepare for them."

32-Jarvis Varnado; Sr. F/C

On slow start to tonight's game...
"I could tell that we did not come out with a lot of energy. I recognized that in warm-ups and that showed at the beginning of the game. We got down a little bit but we were able to get our composure and get back in it. Everybody kept playing hard and we kept fighting to get back in it."

On Dee Bost"s performance tonight...
"His shot was falling tonight and it just gave him tremendous confidence. He did a great job tonight shooting and getting in the lane to create for himself and others."

22-Barry Stewart; Sr. G

On Dee Bost's performance tonight...
"Dee's shots were just falling tonight. He shot it really well and they just kept falling. Dee is really hard to guard when his shots are going down like that."

On Romero Osby's contribution to the win tonight...
"You know "Ro" is a physical player. Ravern and Romero are two different players. Ravern gives you some long ball shooting skills, but Romero gives us more of a physical presence. He has been in a lot at the end of games lately and we have a lot of confidence in Romero."
