Auburn Quotes

#1 Florida 91, Auburn 66

Saturday, January 27, 2007

Head Coach Jeff Lebo

On Florida...

"I don't know what could have been today with the way Florida played.  They were great today.  (Taurean) Green dominated the game.  We've had trouble with point guards.  Quantez (Robertson) plays his tail off, but Green is so good running their team.  No matter what you do defensively with him, he can take advantage of it.  He can shoot the three.  You back off, he comes off ball screens.  If you switch, he takes on the big guy.  He makes decisions with it.  If you double him, he beats the double-team.  They can pass the ball so well.  You have to pick your poison with how you are going to guard them.  (Lee) Humphrey, I thought, was terrific making shots today.  They shot it so well.  They shot 58 percent and 64 (percent) from the three.  We didn't turn the ball over, we just couldn't stop them.

On Florida's shooting...

"They made a lot of shots today.  You look at the buckets, and they made two more than we did.  They made nine threes, and we were 1-for-13, so they made shots from the perimeter.  They got to the foul line.  They utilized their strength inside.  They are big.  When they get it in there, they can do something with it.

"Florida, I think, it one of the best teams I have seen in five years.  They have championship experience.  They can win on the road.  They have answers at every spot.  They have depth.  They are experienced.  They are just good.  They're well-coached.  They take everyone's best shots in tough environments, and they still win.  They are doggone good, I will tell you that."

On the comparison between this year's Florida team and last year's...

"I think last year, they knew they were good, but they didn't know how good they were.  This year, they know, because they went and won the national championship.  They know they are good.  They play with a little bit more swagger.  Their confidence is pretty good, too."

On Auburn's confidence...

"They played great today.  We can't get down about it.  We just have to pick up the pieces and move on.  It's frustrating, but we have to get better.  We have another game on Wednesday."

On what the loss means to Auburn...

"That is the best team in the country.  I don't think we were ready for that, especially the way they played today."

On playing two straight games before a packed house...

"They buzz was big.  It was fun.  The students were out.  The fans were out, and people were talking about it.  That was nice to see.  I think our kids enjoyed it.  We have to learn how to react better to it."

AUBURN Players

Sophomore Guard Quantez Robertson

On Florida...

"Florida has been the best team that we have played so far. They shot the ball well and capitalized on a couple of our mistakes. They made the extra pass and made the shot."

Sophomore Forward Josh Dollard

On Florida...

"They are a great team. They are good at every spot. Good teams take advantage of the other team's weakness and they did that today. They played a great game. We fought hard, but we weren't able to come up on top."

On confidence...

"It won't hurt our confidence. The game is behind us now. It is over and done with. We just have to come back Monday, practice hard and get the job done at South Carolina."

On Auburn's rhythm...

"At the end of the first half, we took a couple of bad shots and we were rushing. They (Florida) were wearing us down on the defense end. In the second half, our game plan was to come in and try to take the lead bit by bit and try to take good shots. Unfortunately, we couldn't hit the open shots. Tonight was just not our night behind the arc. I think that we are a pretty good shooting team. The nights that we can't hit threes and score the ball, we are not going to win."

Junior Forward Quan Prowell

On Florida's inside game...

"They are tough. They got the whole package. Even if you are able to get in front of them, they are long and tall enough to get it over us. They have some big players that can really play in the post. They showed it today."

Florida Head Coach Billy Donovan

Opening Statement...

"I was very, very pleased with our guys. They did a good job. Auburn is a hard match-up team, because they have a lot of skill and a lot of speed. They shoot the three, at times, from five positions. I think the difference was our inside game. They were trying to force us to play a smaller lineup, and we were able to get away with playing a bigger one. We were able to get the ball inside and get to the free-throw line. "

On Auburn...

"They are a hard team to guard. They were coming in with a lot of momentum, three and three in the West with some great wins at home against ranked teams. It was a great environment here with a lot of emotion, so I was happy with the way our guys came out and performed."

On Florida's bench...

"I think everybody played well. We got good minutes off the bench from Chris Richard, which was good. It was a team effort. I thought Lee Humphrey shot the ball really well. We had a good night shooting the ball. We played with a level of intelligence, which was a little different than what we played with against Mississippi State.  "

Senior Guard Lee Humphrey

On starting off slow...

"Sometimes our game can be on and off.  I think we are going to have to try to stay on all the time."

On Florida's offense...

"I think our offense was really good tonight.  I think they did a good job of taking advantage of what they were given.  They did a good job of getting it inside and made good of their open shots. "

On feeling better about this game compared to their game against Mississippi State...

"Any time you have a game like that, it's nice to win the next game big."

On playing to the best of their ability...

"Every team we play can be tough.  There are no "gimme" games.  We want to win a conference championship and we want to be the best team we can be.  We know every game is a chance to improve so we can play our best.

On hopes of being undefeated in the SEC...

"Of course we have talked about being undefeated.  That would be great."

Senior Forward Chris Richard

On the rest of Florida's season...

"I think we should just take it one game at a time.  We should come in and take care to play well against whoever we are playing at the moment.  I think we should stay in the moment and stop looking forward to the future."

On consistency...

"We want to win.  I think even if we wanted to be an on and off team, I don't think our opponents would give us a chance to be like that.  Everyone is bringing their A-plus game.  We have to be on the edge every night.  If we don't, we know we can lose just like anybody else.  If we just stay on, we'll be okay."
