Auburn Head Coach Jeff Lebo
On the game:
"We dug ourselves a hole that first half, the transition defense was exceptional. I thought we made the corrections and didn't give them anything easy in the second half, but they did make some three's. Coach Donovan did a great job. They came out of their time-outs and got us just about every time up the court. They are a good team, they are tough. I thought we played better in the second half, obviously it's not the outcome that we wanted, but there were some bright spots.
On his High Point's transition defense:
"We went through a stretch where we got a little tired and we just couldn't make shots. They hurt us in transition. We came down the court and we were executing okay and getting decent shots, we just couldn't get any of them to go in. So, it all kind of fed into each other and that's the whole problem with our transition defense. That's been a weakness for us all season and is something that we will work on."
On the short turn around impact of playing two games so closely together:
"I didn't really like the fact that we played on Thursday and then had to turn right around for an early Saturday afternoon game. We got here at 4 o'clock in the morning and because we are on central time, it felt even earlier."
On the lack of depth on their bench:
"We were only able to really play about six of our guys because of injuries, which proved to be a big disadvantage in the second half as fatigue kicked in."
On Lucas Hargrove:
"Lucas did some good things today for us. He still is not 100 percent but he played very active and blocked some shots and had some nice rebounds."
Senior Guard Frank Tolbert
On his performance:
"The game is just coming to me. I've been in the gym working hard and working out a lot, staying after practice. It's good, I'm in the right place at the right time."
On Florida's defense going into SEC play:
"Coach really stresses defensive energy. Obviously, I think we're going to have to bring more energy and effort to the court, but it's a process. We're still learning, but I think we'll be fine."
Senior Forward Quan Prowell
On his performance this year compared to last:
"Last year I was playing behind NBA players, so this year I've had to prove myself and prove that I can play."
On playing significant minutes:
"I'm feeling really good. I work hard in practice, so it's paid off in games. Coach says to keep running, so I just keep running."
Florida Head Coach Billy Donovan
On the game:
"I'm really proud of our guys. It was a tough game. Auburn had injuries to their front court and when you are missing pieces, it becomes hard to defend and play. Their team has great quickness, but lacked a post presence. We played and competed well today. We played with the flow and made good decisions. The press was very effective.
On the players:
"Mareese Speightes had a good game, but it was hard for us to get him the ball because of Auburn's speed and activity. Dan Werner played terrific for us after missing two days of practice. Jai Lucas hit some timely shots and Nick (Calathes) hit some key threes. We had great contribution by all players."
On the press:
"We did a good job in the press; very disruptive. We seem to have matured after the Alabama game. We embraced it and are beginning to figure it out. We are starting to put things into perspective."
"Auburn was constantly changing their defense, going from zones, to trapping, to 1-3-1 at times. It was up and down the first few minutes and by the second half all the guys were tired. We allowed Auburn to get back in the game and match up with us. We became stagnant and didn't move. Jai Lucas and fouls bailed us out towards the end of the game."
"We gave up 11 offensive rebounds in the first half, but in the second only gave up one. We forced 19 turnovers. We were really disruptive and had timely steals."
Freshman Guard/Forward Nick Calathes
On the team's performance:
"I think we have a lot of offense to work on, but we are getting better. Our defense really stepped up, but we do need to improve on one-to-one defense."
On Florida's chemistry:
"I think our chemistry is getting a lot better, and we're getting a lot better as a team. This game was definitely one of the better ones. Our defense was good, but I think our offense got out-rebounded in the first half."
Sophomore Forward Dan Werner
On his performance:
"It's tough coming off the bench, but I enjoy what I do. I enjoy coming out there and playing. I enjoy it every day, and of course if you like something, you're going to come out every time and play your best."
On coming off the bench:
"I think I did something to my foot in the Alabama game. It was bothering me a little the other day, and I say out practice. That's why I didn't start today."
