John Searby begins his third season at Auburn University as the Director of Basketball Operations and his fifth year as a member of head coach Jeff Lebo's staff. Searby handles the day-to-day responsibilities in the basketball office as well as team travel, scheduling and equipment. Searby was the athletic director and head basketball coach at Lincoln (Ill.) Christian College in 2003-04 where he led the Preachers to a 21-17 record. The Normal, Ill., native was an assistant coach under Lebo at Tennessee Tech when the Golden Eagles won back-to-back Ohio Valley Conference titles in 2001 and 2002 and advanced to the NIT quarterfinals. Searby served as an assistant varsity coach and freshman head coach at Widefield High School in Colorado Springs, Colo., while also teaching English in 2002-03. Widefield advanced to the 2003 Class 4A Regional finals. He was an assistant coach at Gardner-Webb University for the 1999-2000 season as the Bulldogs went 25-5, won the South Atlantic Conference Championship and earned a NCAA Div. II Tournament berth. Searby, who was a three-year starter at forward at Milligan College in Johnson City, Tenn., helped the Buffaloes to the NAIA National Tournament and was team captain his senior year. He was a four-year letterwinner at Milligan from 1994-98. Searby earned his B.A. in English and History Education from Milligan in 1998 and his M.A. in English from Tennessee Tech in 2002. Born October 7, 1975, Searby is married to the former Jessi Fick of Havelock, N.C. They are the proud parents of one son, Jack, born March 18, 2006, and have two dogs, Landon and Lincoln.
