AUBURN, Ala. - Auburn sophomore Mike Bianucci was named to the 2007 Wallace Watch list, released Monday by the College Baseball Foundation. The Brooks Wallace Award is presented annually to the national college baseball player of the year.

Bianucci, who split time between third base and designated hitter, led Auburn in batting average (.359) while also belting eight home runs and driving in 31 runs. At the conclusion of the season, he was named a Freshman All-American and First Team All-SEC.

The Wallace Watch will be trimmed to 12 semi-finalists by late May. Then the selection committee will narrow the list to three finalists following the NCAA Super Regionals, prior to the College World Series. The selection committee for the Wallace Award is comprised of a national panel of preeminent coaches, sports information directors, former winners and beat media who most closely follow the sport.

The Tiger open their spring season on Friday, Feb. 9 against Hofstra at 3 p.m. CT at Plainsman Park.
