Jay Gonzalez' two-out single to left in the bottom of the seventh gave the White Team a 4-3 win in Game 1 of the 2011 Fall World Series. Game 2 is scheduled for Thursday at 4pm with Rocky McCord trying to even the series at a game apiece for the Gray Team while Daniel Koger will try to give the White Team a two-game advantage in the best-of-five series.
Gonzalez finished the game with an infield single, a walk, two runs scored and the game-winning RBI and also made two diving catches in center for the White Team.
Garrett Cooper drove in Gonzalez in the first and then scored on a Kody Ortman double to give the White Team a 2-0 lead after one.
A Jarred Smith sacrifice fly scored Gonzalez in the fourth to give the White Team a 3-0 advantage before the Gray Team rallied in the later innings.
J.D. Crowe doubled in a run in the sixth to draw the Gray Team to within two runs, 3-1, with just one inning left as all games are seven-inning contests.
Down to its last out with none on in the top of the seventh the Gray Team rallied to tie the game up on Blake Austin's two-run single following a pair of walks and stolen bases. Cameron Blinka had fanned the first two hitters he faced before running into the trouble.
Blinka got the win while Chase Williamson took the loss, hitting the leadoff man in the top of the seventh before giving way to Ethan Wallen, who served up Gonzalez' hit.
Jon Luke Jacobs threw five scoreless innings for the White Team while Will Kendall allowed three runs in four innings.
