Hunter Morris will take the first swings and Tim Hudson the last as the teams and pairings have been set for Friday night's annual Celebrity Home Run Derby at Plainsman Park. Gates and concession stands for the event open at 5:30pm and the eight participants will take batting practice at 6pm along with a 2012 team autograph session on the Tiger Terrace.
Morris, the 2010 SEC Player of the Year and a fourth-round pick of the Milwaukee Brewers that summer, will hit first for the Orange Team. Also slugging away for the Orange Team will be Gabe Gross, a seven-year MLB veteran and first-round pick of the Toronto Blue Jays in 2001, David Ross, who is currently a catcher for the Atlanta Braves, and Jonathan Schuerholz, who was an eighth-round pick by the Atlanta Braves in 2002 and was recently promoted to the manager's job with the Danville Braves.
Countering them will be the Blue Team, anchored by Hudson. Leading off will be Brian Fletcher, a 2010 First Team All-SEC outfielder and an 18th-round pick of the Kansas City Royals in 2010 who was recently tabbed the Royals Single-A Player of the Year. He will be followed by Kevin Patterson, a 30th-round pick of the Blue Jays this past summer and also a 2010 First Team All-SEC selection. Wes Helms, a 13-year MLB veteran and a personal friend of Hudson from their years on the Braves together, rounds out the Blue Team.
Fans are asked to make a $2 donation at the gates and every $5 donated on top of that will enter them into prize drawings throughout the night. The list of prizes includes signed memorabilia from each of the participants for a total of eight prize packs, two separate rounds of golf for four at Grand National, tickets to Atlanta Braves games, four tickets to the Hudson Family Foundation Homecoming concert and an Auburn Baseball UnderArmour package.
Students will receive an Auburn Ignited point for attending the event.
All proceeds from the event will go to the Hudson Family Foundation.
