Baseball Closes Out Fall Practices With Fall World Series
Oct. 18, 2010
The Auburn baseball team wraps up fall practice this week with a three-game Fall World Series. The seven-inning scrimmages will be held on Wednesday at 3:45pm CT, Friday at 3pm and Sunday at 11. All scrimmages are open to the public and free of charge.
Divided up into the White and Gray teams, the series will be a best two-out-of-three series, though all three games will be played regardless of the outcome of the first two. Friday's game will precede the annual Home Run Derby, which raises money for the Boys and Girls Club of Lee County and is set for a 6pm start in Plainsman Park.
Jr. RHP Jon Luke Jacobs (Gray) and Jr. RHP Derek Varnadore (White) each get the opening game nod on the mound, followed by Jr. RHP Andrew Morris (Gray) vs. So. RHP Slade Smith (White) in Game 2 and Sr. RHP Bradley Hendrix (Gray) vs. Jr. RHP Will Irvin (White) in the finale.
Fans attending Friday's Home Run Derby will need to make a one dollar donation at the gate. Scheduled to compete in the home run derby are Mark Bellhorn, Josh Donaldson, Todd Faulkner, Gabe Gross, Bobby Huddleson, Ryan Jenkins, Mailon Kent, Kevin Patterson and Creede Simpson.
Throughout Friday night's exhibition, Auburn will honor the 2010 award winners, which included Hunter Morris and Brian Fletcher being named All-Americans and Morris as the SEC Player of the Year.
The team as a whole will be recognized on Saturday during the Auburn-LSU football game at Jordan-Hare Stadium for claiming the 2010 Southeastern Conference Western Division Championship.
For every dollar donated at the gate on Friday night, fans will receive one raffle ticket for prizes that will be given out during the night, including an Under Armour prize pack.
