Justin Camp was named the Valley League Pitcher of the Year.
AUBURN, Ala. - Three Auburn baseball players teamed up this summer to help the Amsterdam (N.Y.) Mohawks to the league championship in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League.
Sophomores Dylan Smith, Jordan Ebert and Trey Wingenter all played vital roles in delivering the Mohawks their second-straight PGCBL title. Smith and Ebert were both All-Stars in the league for the East division, while Wingenter was the Mohawks' opening-day starter.
In the Valley League in northern Virginia, sophomore Justin Camp was named the league's Pitcher of the Year after going 6-1 in eight starts with a 1.37 ERA and helping the Harrisonburg Turks to a 32-12 regular-season record, the best in the league.
Below are some highlights from the Auburn baseball players that competed in various summer leagues around the country, most of which concluded their seasons last week:
PERFECT GAME LEAGUE
Dylan Smith - Amsterdam Mohawks
--Tied for league lead in RBI with 34...Tied for team lead and second in the league in homers with 6... Hitting numbers: .323/.381/.556 ... 6-for-6 in stolen-base attempts ... Played in 35 games, starting 33 ... Set league record with 8 RBI on a 3-for-5 night with two doubles and a three-run homer in a 13-3 win over Adirondack ... Named PGCBL Player of the Week during third week of season after hitting .550 (11-20) with 13 RBI, six runs scored, five doubles, two HR and reached base safely in six straight games... Named a PGCBL All-Star, starting DH, had a hit and an RBI in the All-Star game
Jordan Ebert - Amsterdam Mohawks
--Hit .318 with five homers and 27 RBIs ... Was 7-for-8 in stolen-base attempts ... Played in 37 games, starting 32 ... Named a PGCBL All-Star for the East Division ... 2-for-5 with an RBI in playoff semifinal game that clinched spot in championship series ... Drove in 6 runs in Amsterdam's 17-0 win over Newark (6/25) with a 4-for-6 night that included a 3-run homer ... Started season in Cape Cod League but elected to join teammates in PGCBL in mid-June.
Trey Wingenter - Amsterdam Mohawks
--Made 10 starts for the Mohawks, posting a 2-4 record with a 3.04 ERA ... Struck out 55 while walking just 19 in 47.1 IP ... Opening-day starter for the Mohawks ... Earned win in game 3 of playoff semifinals to help Amsterdam advance to championship series ... Had a team season-high 8 strikeouts vs. Adirondack (7/12) in a season-long seven-inning start ... Combined with another pitcher on a shutout of Newark (6/23), picking up the win with 6.0 innings of four-hit ball, striking out six while walking just one ... Got his second win of the year against Elmira (7/25), allowing one unearned run on two hits over 6.0 innings while striking out seven.
Justin Camp - Harrisonburg Turks
--Valley League Pitcher of the Year ... Led Valley League with six wins on the year ... Earned wins in six of eight starts ... Fifth in the league with a 1.37 ERA ... Ninth in the league with 45 strikeouts in 60.0 innings pitched ... Helped Harrisonburg to 32-12 overall record, best in the regular season ... Pitched a complete-game, one-hit shutout in second start of season, striking out eight in 4-0 win over Staunton (6/11) ... Combined on a shutout of Waynesboro (6/29) with 7.0 scoreless innings where he scattered five hits while striking out six ... Was the starting pitcher for the South team in the league's All-Star Game, picking up the win with an inning of shutout ball.
Terrance Dedrick - Waynesboro Generals
--Made seven appearances on the mound, including three starts ... Posted an 0-2 record with one save and a 3.00 ERA ... Struck out 23 batters while walking only two in 18.0 innings pitched ... Had a season-high nine strikeouts over five innings in a 7-5 loss to Staunton (7/13) ... Also came to the plate in 20 games, making a handful of starts in the outfield and serving as designated hitter in several more games ... Batted .254 for the year ... Went 3-for-5 with a run scored against Woodstock (6/20) ... Had a pair of two-hit games on the year.
Logan Traylor - Charles Town Cannons
--Made 7 appearances for Charles Town, all in relief ... Went 0-1 with a 4.15 ERA ... Did not allow an earned run in four straight appearances from June 15-21 ... Longest outing came June 19 vs. New Market where he pitched 3.0 innings, giving up one unearned run on two hits.
CAPE COD LEAGUE
Rocky McCord - Hyannis Harbor Hawks
--Made nine appearances for the Harbor Hawks, including four starts ... Posted a 1-2 record and a 2.50 ERA ... Had 30 strikeouts and 11 walks in 39.2 IP ... Season-high 9 strikeouts in playoff game vs. Bourne, pitched 5 innings and gave up 1 earned run.
Daniel Koger - Falmouth Commodores
--Started six games for Falmouth with a 2-2 record and a 3.48 ERA ... Earned wins on July 19 vs. Orleans and Aug. 2 vs. Bourne ... Pitched 31.0 innings, recording 19 strikeouts and just six walks ... Struck out season-high 6 hitters in 4.0 innings of shutout ball vs. Cotuit (7/4).
Sam Gillikin - Falmouth Commodores
--Played in 30 games, making 27 starts in outfield for Falmouth ... Hit .256 with eight RBI and scored 11 runs on the year ... Went 3-for-5 with an RBI and 3 runs scored in 14-3 win over Brewster (7/22) ... 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored in 9-8 win over Yarmouth-Dennis (7/6) ... In wins over Wareham on 6/18 and 6/29, was a combined 6-for-8 with 6 RBI and 3 doubles.
Dillon Ortman - Wareham Gatemen
--Made 15 appearances for Wareham, all in relief ... 0-2 record with a 4.50 ERA ... Struck out 31 hitters and walked 10 in 26.0 innings ... Had a pair of 6-strikeout performances, pitching a season-best 4.2 innings of shutout ball vs. Harwich (6/19) and 3.0 innings allowing one run vs. Cotuit (7/31) ... Had a stretch of 6 appearances from June 17 through July 3 where he allowed only one earned run in 12.1 innings while striking out 14.
Trey Cochran-Gill - Brewster Whitecaps
