Cape Cod League
Kevin Patterson was named a starter for the West Division All-Stars for the Cape Cod League All-Star game, which will be held Saturday, July 26, at Veterans Field in Chatham ... Fellow Tiger Joseph Sanders will also be in attendance as he was named to the Baseball Express Home Run Hitting Contest for the East Division ... Patterson enters Thursday hitting .278 with 22 RBI, which is tied for fifth in the league ... In 133 at bats, he has five doubles, two triples and two homers, scoring 16 runs as Cotuit is 16-17 ... Sanders it hitting .259 and with a team-high 15 RBI and is second on his squad with four home runs ... His nine doubles pace the Harwich Mariners, who are 19-15 and second in the East ... Brian Fletcher, a mid-summer addition to the Falmouth roster, is hitting .186 with six doubles and five RBI in 19 games ... Falmouth is 17-15-1 ... Fellow Cotuit Kettleer Mike Bianucci finished his season on the Cape with a .282 average, four doubles, a triple, five homers, 19 RBI and a .551 slugging percentage.

Cal Ripken, Sr. Collegiate Baseball League
Ben Jones is at .203 on the summer with four doubles, a triple, a homer and seven RBI for the Bethesda Big Train, which is 27-11 and second in the league.

Coastal Plain League
I was able to take in a Coastal Plain League contest while away, catching Sean Ray and the Peninsula Pilots play at the Outer Banks Devils ... Though Sean didn't pitch, his team won, 6-4, the night I was there ... If you haven't been to a summer league contest (this was my first), I hope they are all enjoyable as the one I went to, which was played on a very nice high school field with very good attendance ... As for Sean, he is 0-1 with a 8.10 ERA in 6.2 innings for the 24-18 Pilots after joining the team mid-summer.

 

 

Florida Collegiate League
Tony Caldwell continues his solid summer for the Winter Park Diamond Dawgs, hitting .265 with six doubles and 14 RBI for a team that is 14-17 on the summer ... Caldwell's six doubles in 25 games puts him among the league-leaders while his 14 RBI is tied for sixth in the league ... He also ranks ninth with a .386 slugging percentage.

Clark Griffith League
Chris O'Neil and Rus Harper have gotten into the groove with the Fairfax Nationals as O'Neil has a 3.04 ERA in 23.2 innings (eight appearances, two starts) while Harper is 2-2 with 25 strikeouts in 29.1 innings, both of which are second on the Nationals staff ... Fairfax is 25-14 and in second in the league.

New England Collegiate League
David Cunningham is hitting .280 in 11 games for the Newport Gulls, having made seven starts on the year after joining the team mid-summer ... Newport is 20-15, 1.5 games behind Pittsfield in the Southern Division.

Valley League
Jon Luke Jacobs continues to pace the Fauquier pitching staff, owning a 1.29 ERA in 35.0 innings, striking out 59 against just 10 walks, going 3-1 in 14 relief appearances while fellow Fauquier staff member Austin Hubbard is sporting a 2.45 ERA in seven relief appearances, striking out 17 in 14.2 innings ... Jacobs' 59 Ks are third in the league ... Teammate Justin Jones is hitting just .172 in 14 games (seven starts) for Fauquier ... Trent Mummey is hitting .238 in six games since joining Winchester mid-summer ... The rising sophomore is a perfect 4-for-4 in stolen bases thus far ... Teammate Bradley Hendrix has thrown 10.1 innings of relief and has a 1.74 ERA, having fanned 13 ... Bradley Ray is at .226 for Front Roayl, having driven in 11 ... Fauquier is 23-15, Winchester is 22-17 and Front Royal is 12-27, all in the North, and in second, third and sixth, respectively.

Sunbelt League
In his 7/8 start at Douglasville in a rain shortened contest, Ty Kelley pitched 4.0 innings, allowing an earned run on two hits and two walks, striking out four ... On Saturday 7/12 in Norcross, he closed the game against DeKalb, throwing the final 2.1 innings striking out three to earn his second save ... Finally, on 7/15 in the first game of a doubleheader, he pitched a shutout against Atlanta, striking out five to earn his third win of the season ... On the season, he is 3-1 with two saves in 23 innings, striking out 25 and registering a 1.22 ERA.

USA Baseball
Hunter Morris blasted the first pitch he saw in the bottom of the 11th over the wall in right-center as the USA Baseball National Team defeated the Chinese-Taipei National Team, 3-2, in the final FISU World Championships pool-play game on Thursday ... Team USA concludes FISU pool play 6-0 and will be the top seed in this weekend's tournament portion of the World Championships ... Team USA is 22-0 on its 2008 summer tour with Morris hitting .257 with three homers and eight RBI in 35 at bats.
