MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Former Auburn baseball player Josh Donaldson hit four total home runs and was eliminated in a first round swing off by Oakland Athletics teammate Yoenis Cespedes in the 2014 Gillette Home Run Derby on Monday at Target Field.
In the opening round, Donaldson homered three times to finish in a tie with teammate Cespedes, the 2013 home run derby champion. The pair then proceeded to a swing off where Donaldson managed one home run in his three swings before Cespedes eclipsed his mark with two.
Donaldson’s week continues on Tuesday when he starts at third base for the American League. It was announced on Monday that the first time All-Star will bat eighth in the lineup.
Donaldson will be joined in the Midsummer Classic by fellow Auburn alumnus Tim Hudson of the San Francisco Giant. He was named to the roster on Sunday.
Tuesday’s game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT and will be televised by Fox. For the latest on Auburn Baseball, follow @Auburn_Baseball on Twitter.
