MINNEAPOLIS - Oakland Athletics third baseman and Auburn alumnus Josh Donaldson was added to the roster for the 2014 Gillette Home Run Derby scheduled for Monday, July 14 the league announced on Thursday.

Donaldson was previously announced as the starting third baseman for the American League. He received a text message from AL team captain Jose Bautista on Thursday morning saying the spot was his to take if he wanted it.

"It's definitely pretty neat," Donaldson told "It's just one of those things that, for me, adds icing to the cake. Hopefully go out there and put on a show."

Donaldson will compete on Monday alongside teammate Yoenis Cespedes, the 2013 champion, Bautista of the Blue Jays, Orioles outfielder Adam Jones and Twins second baseman Brian Dozier.

Donaldson is the only SEC baseball alumnus to be named a starting position player in this year’s MLB All-Star game. The game will be played on Tuesday, July 15 at Target Field in Minneapolis. He is the first Auburn alumni to start the All-Star Game since Hall of Famer Frank Thomas started the game at first base in 1995.
