Alaska Baseball League
Ryan Jenkins is no longer on the roster of the Anchorage Bucs and finished his stint in Alaska as a.313 hitter for the summer ... In six ABL games Jenkins hit .250 with two RBI.
Cape Cod League
Kevin Patterson and Mike Bianucci continue to tear up Cape League pitching for Cotuit as Patterson, who is hitting .306, is tied for second in the league with 18 RBI and is tied for the league lead with two triples ... Meanwhile, Bianucci leads the Cape with five home runs and 19 RBI, is third in slugging (.567) and fourth in runs scored (17) while maintaining a .269 batting average .... Joseph Sanders, with Harwich, checks in this week with a .312 batting average and a look at his starts by position shows just how versatile the rising junior has been at the Cape as he has made 13 starts at third, three starts in the outfield and a start each at first and second base ... With all the shifting around, he has made just four errors on the summer ... Since joining Falmouth last week, Brian Fletcher is hitting .150 in 20 at-bats ...Harwich lost five straight and is now 9-10, fourth in the East while Cotuit is third in the West at 11-10, a game in front of Falmouth (9-10).
Cal Ripken, Sr. Collegiate Baseball League
Ben Jones' average dipped down to .213 this week despite the Big Train going undefeated since the last update ... The Big Train continues to pace the league with a 21-5 mark.
Coastal Plain League
Sean Ray, who joined the team following the first summer semester, threw for the first time this summer in Tuesday night's 6-3 win over Martinsville, tossing an inning and allowing one run ... Peninsula leads the North in the second half with a perfect 5-0 record.
Florida Collegiate League
Tony Caldwell kept his average at a team-best .267 this week ... Caldwell's 20 hits are eighth in the league while his six doubles and two triples are both tied for second ... He also ranks among the league leaders in RBI with 12 (tied for fifth), total bases (30 - seventh) and slugging percentage (.400 - seventh) ... Winter Park went 2-4 over the last week and is now 11-15 on the year.
Clark Griffith League
The Fairfax Nationals of the Clark Griffith League have hit the mid-point of the season and have done a rather lengthy write-up on the season so far ... Here is what they have to say about a pair of Auburn hurlers ... "On the mound, several guys are getting it done ... Auburn's tandem of lefty Rus Harper (2-1, 6.11 ERA, 19 K, 17.2 IP) and Chris O'Neil (1-0, 4.61 ERA, 7 K, 13.2 IP) are rounding into form after redshirting in school..." ... Dr. O'Neil also notified us that Chris will be getting his first start of the summer on Saturday ... Fairfax is 17-8 and in second place in the CGL.
New England Collegiate League
David Cunningham has gotten into the groove of summer ball after staying in Auburn for the first summer session ... Since joining the Newport Gulls, he has appeared in six games and recorded a .333 batting average with an on base percentage of .444 as Newport went 6-1 over the last week to lead the Southern Division by game.
All-Star Jon Luke Jacobs was perfect in his one-inning appearance in the Valley League All-Star game last weekend, which was played to a 5-5 tie ... Two games into the second half of the summer season, Jacobs is 3-1 with a 2.05 ERA, striking out 35 against just six walks and 17 hits ... Justin Jones, who joined Jacobs in Fauquier just prior to the break, is hitless in nine at bats ... Austin Hubbard, another mid-season addition to Fauquier, has a 2.25 ERA in four appearances (8.0 IP) ... In Winchester, Trent Mummey and Bradley Hendrix were also mid-season additions ... In limited playing time, Mummey is hitting .267 while Hendrix has a 9.00 ERA (2.0 IP) ... Bradley Ray, who has been with Front Royal all year, is hitting .261 with 11 runs scored and eight RBI ... Fauquier is 16-11, Winchester is 16-12 and Front Royal is 10-18 with all three teams residing in the North Division.
There were no updates on the Sunbelt League this past week, where Ty Kelley is playing for the Norcross Astros ... The league has a week-and-a-half left in its regular season before the State Playoffs are held at Norcross High School from Monday, July 21 through Saturday, July 26.
Hunter Morris and the USA Baseball National Team is a perfect 3-0 during play at the Haarlem Baseball Week ... USA downed Japan, 5-2, Cuba, 1-0, and Netherlands Antilles, 11-0 ... Morris is hitting .238 with a double, a run and four RBI.
A Check On A Former Tiger
2007 supplemental-round pick Josh Donaldson (47th overall) was traded to the Oakland A's as a part of a six-player trade between the A's and the Cubs on Tuesday ... In a text message, Donaldson, who will report to either Kane County (Class A Midwest League) or Stockton (Class A Advanced California League) said he was excited about the trade.
