Auburn Baseball: Summer Ball Update (July 5)

A weekly look at how the Tigers playing in summer leagues did over the past week. Included in this week's update is Evan Crawford's continued dominance on the mound.

Cape Cod League

Mike Bianucci and the Cotuit Kettleers continue to remain in second in the west with an 8-7-2 record overall after going 2-3-2 this past week... Bianucci continues to lead the league in stolen bases with eight and is also tied for the league lead in runs with 14... He is batting .216 with two homers and nine RBI after hitting a two-run home run this past week... Evan Crawford's Harwich Mariners are in in the Eastern Division at 4-13 but not because of Crawford, who dropped his already miniscule ERA to 0.61 this past week after throwing five innings without allowing an earned run, while adding six strikeouts in relief... This season, he has thrown 14.2 innings, has one save and has struck out 24, which is tied for first on the team and the third-best strikeout total in the league.

Coastal Plain League

Sean Ray and the Peninsula Pilots stand in second place in the North Division with a 16-13 overall record... Ray has made nine relief appearances, throwing eight innings and giving up five earned runs... He has fanned 10 batters, walked nine and earned a save.

New England Collegiate Baseball League

Austin Hubbard and the Newport Gulls are tied atop the Southern Division at 13-6 ... Hubbard is 1-0 on the season in five starts and has a 1.12 ERA in a league-high 24.0 innings ... In his July 3 start, Hubbard allowed two runs on five hits and three walks in 3.2 innings, striking out four ... He is currently leading the league with 28 Ks, while he is third in ERA and third in lowest opposing batting average with .169.

Shenandoah Valley League

Luke Greinke is 1-1 with a 2.81 ERA in four starts for the Winchester Royals as he earned his first win on June 27 against Front Royal, allowing three runs on five hits in 7.0 innings, registering three strikeouts ... Greinke is also getting plenty of looks at the plate as he is hitting a league-leading .449 in 49 at bats ... He hit his second home run of the summer on July 2 in a 5-1 win over Fauquier ... Scott Shuman is 0-2 with a 4.58 ERA having made three starts and two relief appearances for Winchester... He picked up his first save of the season in the same game Greinke earned his first win, coming in the final two innings to polish off a 6-4 win ... Joseph Sanders is hitting .279 with two doubles and eight RBI for Winchester, having started 22 games, mostly at third base ... Bryan Woodall has joined Winchester for the remainder of the season... Bradley Ray made his debut for Front Royal on June 26 and has played in five games with a .315 batting average... Ty Kelley has joined the Covington Lumberjacks and pitched in his first game on July 3 against Fauquier... Kelley earned the win after going four innings, giving up four hits, one run and striking out two... Michael Hurst has also joined Covington and has a 2.25 ERA in three apearances, throwing four innings and striking out four... Winchester is 12-12 (sixth), Covington is 12-14 (seventh) and Front Royal is 9-13 (ninth) on the season in the 11-team league.

Clark Griffith Baseball League

Eric Skinner joined Fairfax on June 25 and has started each of the team's last four games at shortstop... He is batting .333 in 15 at-bats... Grant Dayton has joined Fairfax for the remainder of the season.
