AUBURN, Ala. – A total of 11 Auburn baseball players – including returning players and newcomers – are competing with several summer teams and organizations around the country during the offseason.
Headlining the group is rising junior Casey Mize, who is participating with the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team this year. He will be part of Team USA for their home series this week against Chinese Taipei in Cary, N.C., and competitions with Cuba and Japan will take place later this summer.
Several other returners are competing around the country. Rising senior RHP Calvin Coker is competing with the Willmar (Minn.) Stingers in the Northwoods League. Rising sophomore LHP Elliott Anderson and IF Will Holland are playing together for the Amsterdam (N.Y.) Mohawks in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League. Rising sophomore RHP Davis Daniel is playing in the Cape Cod League with the Brewster (Mass.) Whitecaps, IF Conor Davis is competing in the Coastal Plain League with the Peninsula Pilots (Hampton, Va.), and OF Jeremy Johnson is in Alaska playing for the Chugiak Eagle-River Chinooks.
Four incoming Tigers are competing in summer leagues as well. Catcher Steven Williams is playing for the Gaithersburg (Md.) Giants in the Cal Ripken League, LHP Jack Owen is competing in the West Coast League with the Victoria (B.C.) HarbourCats, IF Brendan Venter is in the Valley League with the Harrisonburg (Va.) Turks, and catcher Chase Hall is playing in the Montgomery Metro League.
