Auburn Baseball Summer Update: June 11

A weekly look at how current Auburn baseball players are fairing in summer collegiate leagues around the country

Alaska Baseball League
The Anchorage Bucs got their season underway on Monday night, June 9, with a 13-1 opening-night win ... Ryan Jenkins was 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored, hitting in the eight-hole and starting behind the dish ... The Bucs did not play on Tuesday.

Cape Cod League
The Cape does not begin play until Saturday, June 14th.

Cal Ripken Sr. Collegiate Baseball League
Ben Jones and the Bethesda Big Train are 2-1 on the young summer season ... Jones has started two games so far on the season but played in all three and is hitting .143 in seven at bats, collecting a double and scoring a run.

Clark Griffin League
The Fairfax Nationals, where both Rus Harper and Chris O'Neil are pitching this summer, are 1-2 in the early going ... The league dealt with some major weather issues last week and had a lot of games rescheduled ... League-wide and team stats are unavailable at this time.

Coastal Plain League
Chezz McCann is hitting a team-leading .302 for the 4-8 Peninsula Pilots ... McCann, who leads the team with nine runs scored, has a five-game hitting streak going ... He has been Peninsula's everyday shortstop in the early going as the Pilots are in fourth place in the North Division.

Florida Collegiate League
Tony Caldwell will be spending his summer close to home as he is playing for the Winter Park Diamond Dawgs ... The Diamond Dawgs are 3-1 on the season with Caldwell hitting .429 in three games (two starts) ... Winter Park is tied for second at 3-1, a half-game out of first.



Shenandoah Valley League
Jon Luke Jacobs appeared in one game last week for the Farquier Gators, throwing 3.0 innings and allowing one run on three hits while striking out five in a 7-4 win over Winchester ... Bradley Ray, who has played both left and right field, is hitting .250 for the Front Royal Cardinals, leading the team with six runs scored ... Farquier is 5-3 and tied for first while Front Royal is 5-4, a game behind the leaders in the North Division.

Sunbelt Baseball League
No stats are available for the Sunbelt Baseball League, where David Cunningham and Ty Kelley are playing this summer ... The Norcross Astros played their first game of the summer on Tuesday night.

USA Baseball National Team Tryouts
Brian Fletcher and Hunter Morris begin tryouts for the USA Baseball National team on Wednesday with tryouts running until Monday, June 23rd ... The first day of tryouts will include a five-hour practice (3-8 pm ET) at Keene State College in Keene, N.H., before the first game of the summer on Thursday at 7 pm vs. the Keene Swamp Bats of the New England Collegiate Baseball League ... The team will stay in the New England area for the rest of the week, playing four games in Massachusetts and two in Connecticut over the next week.
