Ryan Tella Named Second Team All-SEC

Auburn's Ryan Tella has been voted Second Team All-SEC by a vote of the league's head coaches, it was announced on Tuesday. Tella, a sophomore, led Auburn and was fourth in the SEC with a .360 batting average. The Fremont, Calif., native also ranked among the conference leaders in slugging percentage (.508, 11th), on base percentage (.448, sixth), hits (85, fourth), triples (four, tied-fifth), total bases (120, seventh), walks (35, tied-eighth) and stolen bases (17, tied-third). In league-only games Tella was seventh in batting average (.333), tied for third in hits (41) and tied for fifth in stolen bases (six). Auburn's everyday center fielder, Tella finished the year with a team-high five outfield assists and had a .973 fielding percentage on 183 chances. Auburn finished the year 31-28 and at the end of the regular season led the league in hitting (.304), on base percentage (.386), hits (610), triples (19) and stolen bases (113). LSU's Raph Rhymes was selected as the SEC Player of the Year, while Chris Stratton from Mississippi State was named the league's Pitcher of the Year. Kentucky's Austin Cousino earned Freshman of the Year honors and Kentucky head coach Gary Henderson was named SEC Coach of the Year.
