Garrett Cooper was named to the All-SEC Second Team, it was announced on Tuesday by the league office.
Auburn's everyday first baseman, Cooper finished the SEC season leading the team and seventh in the SEC in batting average (.352), tied for third in slugging percentage (.581), sixth in on base percentage (.444), tied for ninth in hits (37), tied for third in home runs (six) and tied for sixth in total bases (61). Defensively, he had a .986 fielding percentage and finished third in the league in chances (276) and putouts (259). His 26 fielding double plays tied for fourth in the SEC.
A native of Manhattan Beach, Calif., the senior finished the season hitting .354 in all games, which was seventh among SEC players. He also finished the year among the league leaders in overall slugging percentage (.540, sixth), on base percentage (.481, second), home runs (seven, tied for seventh), total bases (102, tied for 13th) and walks (37, tied for third). His on base percentage ranks ninth all-time in Auburn history for a single season.
Cooper's selection makes it four straight years in which Auburn has had an All-SEC selection. The 2010 team boasted a school-record six All-SEC selections while the team had two in 2011 and one in 2012.
