Junior starting pitcher Conner Kendrick was named the Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Week following his performance in the series opener against No. 11 Arkansas last Thursday night.
Kendrick, from Sharpsburg, Ga., earned a second consecutive win by throwing the first 7 1/3 innings of a 3-0 shutout win over Arkansas. He scattered four hits and one walk while striking out a career-high-tying eight, done twice before. The left-handed starting pitcher allowed multiple base runners in only one inning and recorded inning-ending strike outs in the second, third and sixth as Auburn posted its first SEC shutout since May 7, 2011.
Kendrick, who will start Auburn's SEC Tournament opener against Alabama, goes into the post-season with a 5-3 mark and a 2.03 ERA. Used as a reliever at the beginning of the season and a starter for the final eight weeks, he has logged 75 1/3 innings, leading the Auburn staff with 74 strike outs while holding opponents to a .257 batting average against.
Alabama will counter with left-hander Justin Kamplain, who is 1-0 with a 4.53 ERA.
Auburn has gotten hot at the right time, winning each of its last three series in league play to finish the regular season 33-22, 13-17 SEC. Auburn's 6-3 closing weekends was tied with Mississippi State and Texas A&M and behind only No. 1 Vanderbilt (7-1) and No. 2 LSU (7-2) for the best finish in league play.
Tuesday's game will be the second in the morning session at the SEC Tournament. The game will be broadcast live on FSN as well as on ESPN3.com (blacked out in the SEC footprint). The Auburn IMG Network will carry the game on its baseball affiliates.
