May 6, 2013
The Auburn baseball team heads to Jacksonville State for a 6:30pm game on Tuesday as it begins a stretch of nine games in 12 days to end the regular season. Fresh off a weekend series win over No. 18 Ole Miss, Auburn will look to carry that momentum into a pair of midweek games as it will return home to play Samford on Wednesday at 6pm.
Auburn, which is armed with the newly minted SEC Player of the Week in Damek Tomscha, goes into the week hitting .268 as a team, paced by Garrett Cooper's .361 batting average. The senior first baseman also leads the team in hits (56), home runs (seven), RBI (34), slugging percentage (.574), walks (29) and on-base percentage (.479).
Junior right-handed pitcher Dillon Ortman (2-1) will get the start for Auburn while Jacksonville State will start left-hander Adam Polk (3-6). This will be Ortman's fourth start of the season and his first since the Capital City Classic win over Alabama on March 5.
Auburn head coach John Pawlowski will be in search of his 500th career victory. A head coach for 14 seasons between Auburn (2009-present) and the College of Charleston (2000-08), he is 499-314-1 (.614) overall, 161-122 (.569) at Auburn.
