With six conference games left, the best Auburn could finish would be fifth in the West (where it currently stands) and seventh overall as Alabama and Arkansas will finish the year with one less SEC game due to rainouts with Mississippi State and Vanderbilt, respectively.
NCAA TOURNAMENT CHATTER: With seven games left, Auburn is still very much in the discussion for a possible NCAA Tournament berth, which would be Auburn's first since the 2005 season ... Consider this, Auburn has a NCAA RPI of 34th and will play the No. 54 (Kentucky), No. 30 (Georgia Southern) and No. 32 (Alabama) teams over its final seven games .... Auburn's has a strength of schedule of eighth on WarrenNolan.com ... Auburn's opponents have a .5949 winning percentage ... When Auburn made the 2005 Tallahassee Regional after missing out on the SEC Tournament due to falling third in line in the three-team tie-breaker for seventh, the team was 32-24 overall, 13-17 SEC, had a RPI of 16 and the No. 1 strength of schedule.
AUBURN VS KENTUCKY: Auburn holds a 68-37 advantage in the all-time series with Kentucky, and has a 10-game lead in the series in games played in Lexington (29-19) ... Auburn has won seven straight series in Lexington, dating back to 1991, and has won four straight series from Kentucky, dating to 2005.
AU VS. THE EAST: Auburn has picked up six of its eight SEC wins against teams from the East, winning 2-of-3 against both Vanderbilt and Tennessee and picking up single wins against Florida and South Carolina.
PAWLOWSKI AND KENTUCKY: Auburn Head Coach John Pawlowski is 1-0 all-time against Kentucky, facing the Wildcats in the 2006 NCAA Lexington Regional Championship Game and eliminating them with a 7-4 win ... Pawlowski's College of Charleston squad was a perfect 3-0 in that regional, defeating No. 15 Notre Dame in the opener, 5-4 and downing Ball State, 11-0 in the winner's bracket before eliminating the host Wildcats in the first championship game.
CALDWELL ADDED TO JOHNNY BENCH LIST: So. C Tony Caldwell has been added to the 2009 Coleman Company-Johnny Bench Award watch list ... Caldwell is currently second in the nation in runners caught stealing with 24 (in 60 attempts), one behind TCU's Bryan Holaday (25 in 48 attempts) ... Moved into the starting catching role after an injury to incumbent Sr. Ryan Jenkins, Caldwell has responded by hitting .282 with 10 doubles, a triple and eight home runs, driving in 20 RBI, all of which surpass his freshman year numbers ... Caldwell is one of seven (out of 53) sophomores on the watch list, which will be paired down to 10 semi-finalists on May 14.
AUBURN'S HOME RUNS FOURTH IN THE NATION: Auburn is stuck on 97 home runs after not hitting any homers in the last four games, the longest stretch of the season ... SOLOISTS: Of Auburn's school-record 97 home runs, 55 of them have been solo home runs, 26 of them have been two run homers, 13 have been three-run shots and three have been grand slams ... The 55 solo home runs would rank 10th all-time in Auburn history for single-season homers.
