Sitting in a three-way tie for first place in the SEC West, the Auburn baseball team will visit one of the three co-leaders in the SEC East this weekend as it travels to No. 2 South Carolina for a three-game series at Carolina Stadium. Game times are set for 6pm CT on both Friday and Saturday and 2pm on Sunday with the first two games of the series airing on SportsSouth and the last on ESPN. All three games will also be on ESPN3.com.
"South Carolina is one of the elite teams, not only in our conference but also in the country," Auburn Head Coach John Pawlowski said. "They are very talented and are a solid team that plays very well at home."
Auburn (23-18, 9-6 SEC) will employ Jr. RHP Jon Luke Jacobs (1-3, 3.90 ERA) as its starter on Friday and Jr. RHP Derek Varnadore (4-1, 3.67) on Saturday but has not determined its Sunday starter.
South Carolina (32-8, 14-4 SEC) will start Jr. LHP Michael Roth (9-1, 1.26) on Friday, So. RHP Colby Holmes (3-1, 4.12) on Saturday and Fr. RHP Forrest Koumas (4-0, 2.85) on Sunday.
Auburn is in search of its first series win over South Carolina since 1997 and just the fourth series win overall over USC. In each of Auburn's last two trips to Columbia it has been able to force a rubber-game in the series finale but has yet to break through to claim the series win.
