April 10, 2012

The Auburn baseball team will honor the 1976 College World Series Team prior to the Auburn vs. South Carolina baseball game on Saturday, April 21.

The team was the second in Auburn history to reach the College World Series and was led by head coach Paul Nix. The club went 37-15, which at that point was a school record for wins, and won the SEC Championship and the NCAA South Regional to advance to Auburn's first College World Series since 1967 and the second under Nix.

Four players off of that team would go on to be MLB Draft picks, including pitchers Joe Beckwith and Terry Leach, infielder-outfielder Dom Fucci and infielder Richie Howard, who hit .383 to lead the team that season. Both Beckwith and Leach would go on to lengthy big league careers, which included multiple World Series trips for both.

The current team will host a reception for the 1976 team prior to Saturday's 3pm game. All team members that have not received information about the reunion or have yet to RSVP should contact Director of Baseball Operations Scott Duval at 334-844-4975 or
