Freshman outfielder Trent Mummey was named the Southeastern Conference's Freshman of the Week on Monday after going on a tear last week, collecting five multi-hit games as Auburn won its series with Tennessee and swept a pair of midweek games from Mercer and Samford.
A native of Pinson, Ala., Mummey was the catalyst for Auburn's strong week, going 14-for-25 (.560) with three doubles, a triple, eight runs scored and seven RBI from the leadoff spot to raise his batting average from .254 before the week started to its current mark of .345, an increase of 91 points.
In Auburn's series win against Tennessee, he went 8-for-14 (.571) with two doubles, two runs and five RBI as Auburn moved into a three-way tie for first place in the SEC West.
This is the second straight week that Auburn has claimed one of the conference's awards as Bryan Woodall was named the Pitcher of the Week last week.
Auburn (18-10, 4-5 SEC) resumes action on Tuesday night at 6pm CT in Mobile for a contest against South Alabama (16-11).
