Freshman Trey Wingenter will make his first career start on Tuesday night as the Auburn baseball team heads to Troy looking to extend its impressive run in non-conference play. Auburn goes into the contest 15-9 but has won nine consecutive non-conference games. Troy is 15-7. First pitch is set for 6pm from Riddle-Pace Field.
Wingenter (1-0) is making just his third appearance for Auburn after picking up a win in last Tuesday's 10-2 win over Alabama State at Plainsman Park. Coming out of the bullpen, he worked five innings of one-run baseball, allowing three hits and walking two while striking out one. Troy will start left-hander Ryan Sorce (1-0).
Auburn is 40-17 all-time against Troy and 7-6 when the game is played at Troy. Since John Pawlowski became the Auburn head coach in 2009, Auburn is 6-2 against Troy, which included a two-game, home-and-home sweep for Auburn last year.
Auburn goes into the game hitting .269 as a team, led by Garrett Cooper and Blake Austin's .324 batting averages. Just behind them is Cullen Wacker, who is hitting .321 and is riding a career-best 10-game hitting streak.
Troy is hitting .318 as a team and is led by Danny Collins, who leads the team in batting average (.420), home runs (five) and RBI (35).
The game will air live locally on WKKR-FM 97.7 and online at auburntigers.com.
Following the game at Troy, Auburn returns home for a Thursday-Friday-Saturday series against arch-rival Alabama. Game times for that series are 6pm on Thursday and Friday and 3pm on Saturday. The series finale will air live on CSS while all three games will be available on the Auburn Baseball Network and online at auburntigers.com.
