BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Freshman infielder Will Holland was named SEC Freshman of the Week for his performance during Auburn's perfect 5-0 week the Southeastern Conference office announced Monday.
A native of Lawrenceville, Ga., Holland made four starts on the week at second base and batted .400 (6-for-15) while helping the Tigers sweep No. 5 Florida to open SEC play.
Holland homered, tripled and scored three times with four RBI on the week and was perfect in the field in all four games with 13 assists and part of six double plays.
He hit a key 2-run homer in the Friday win over Florida and his bunt in ninth inning Sunday set the stage for walk-off win that capped Auburn's first sweep of the Gators in 30 years.
Holland is batting .278 on the season in 11 starts with four extra-base hits, five runs and nine RBI. He is tied for the team lead with two homers. He's the first Auburn freshman with four RBI in a game since Blake Logan had six in 2014.
