AUBURN, Ala. - The Auburn baseball team steps out of SEC action on Tuesday as it plays host to South Alabama on Dollar Hot Dog Night. First pitch is scheduled for 6pm at Plainsman Park.

Auburn (12-8) will ride its pitching into Tuesday's game after the staff surrendered just eight runs during a series victory at No. 12 Ole Miss over the weekend. The staff combined for a 2.77 ERA and had a .200 batting average against, with the bullpen working 8 1/3 innings of shutout baseball, collecting a win and two saves. Over the last nine games, Auburn has held its opponents to five runs or less and has outscored its opponents, 49-27, going 6-3.

First baseman Garrett Cooper has reached base safely in all 19 games he has played in this season and is currently on a six-game hitting streak while Ryan Tella has reached base safely in 17 straight games. Tella leads the team with 12 multi-hit games and comes into the week among the SEC leaders in batting average (.438, 2nd), on base percentage (.552, 1st), hits (32, T-3rd), walks (18, T-1st) and steals (8, 4th).

Tuesday night is Two-for-Tuesday and fans can buy one ticket and get one free.

PITCHING LEADS THE WAY
The Auburn pitching staff had a fantastic weekend at No. 12 Ole Miss, surrendering just eight runs over three games (2.7 R/g) as the team took two-out-of-three on SEC opening weekend ... The staff combined for a 2.77 ERA, with the bullpen working 8 1/3 innings of shutout baseball with a win and two saves ... The staff also had a .200 batting average against.

 

 

FIVE-AND-UNDER
Auburn has held its opponents to five runs or less in each of its last nine games, dating back to the 13-1 win over Charleston Southern on March 3 ... In those nine games Auburn has outscored its opponents, 49-27, and has gone 6-3 ... The staff ERA was 2.59 over that stretch, dropping the overall team mark from 4.07 to 3.60.

19-FOR-19
First baseman Garrett Cooper has reached base safely in all 19 games he has played and is currently on a six-game hitting streak ... Over the last six games he 8-23 (.348) with five runs scored.

TELLA ME ABOUT IT
Ryan Tella has reached base safely in 17 straight games and has been on base in all but one game this season, the third game of the year ... He currently leads the team with 12 multi-hit games and two of the three games he is hitless in he drew multiple walks ... He comes into the week among the SEC leaders in batting average (.438, 2nd), on base percentage (.552, 1st), hits (32, T-3rd), walks (18, T-1st) and steals (8, 4th).

THE WACK ATTACK
Cullen Wacker took over in left field on March 3 and has responded by hitting .321 (9-28) when he is the starting leftfielder ... He has also played an errorless nine games in left, highlighted by his leaping catch on Sunday at No. 12 Ole Miss that robbed Will Allen of a two-run home run to end the fifth, keeping the game at 2-1 ... He then delivered the game-tying double with two outs in the ninth ... Since moving into the cleanup spot seven games ago he has hit just .261 (6-23) compared to .304 in the five hole but the team has gone 5-2 over that span.

COMEBACK WINS
Auburn's 3-2 win on Sunday at Ole Miss was Auburn's third come-from-behind win of the season but the first in which it trailed going into the ninth ... Before Sunday the last time Auburn won a game that it was trailing going into the ninth was in 2010 after the team went 0-20 in those situations last season ... The 2010 team finished the year 1-18 when trailing after nine.

SEC OPENING SERIES WINS
Auburn won its SEC opening series for the fourth straight season ... When Auburn hosts No. 8 LSU this weekend it will be trying to win its first two SEC series for the first time since 2003.

SEC INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
Ryan Tella comes into the week the SEC leader in on base percentage (.552) and walks (18) ... Jay Gonzalez and Creede Simpson are tied for the league lead in stolen bases (14) ... Dan Glevenyak leads the SEC in sac bunts (six).
