March 2, 2010
AUBURN, Ala. - Brian Fletcher's outstanding weekend at the plate garnered him another award as on Tuesday the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) named him the National Hitter of the Week. Already tabbed the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week, Fletcher hit .636 (7-for-11) with a 1.545 slugging percentage in the Auburn Classic. He collected three home runs, including a walk-off solo homer in the 10th to beat Boston College on Friday night. Fletcher had 11 RBI during the weekend, has hit safely in all six games this season and has an 11-game hitting streak dating back to last season. Through two weeks of play, Fletcher leads the SEC in RBI (17), home runs (four) and total bases (26), is second in slugging percentage (1.040) and 11th in batting average (.440). Fletcher's 17 RBI are the most by an Auburn player through six games since Gabe Gross drove in 18 in the first six games of the 2000 season. Fletcher is Auburn's first national Player of the Week since Josh Donaldson in February of 2007. Follow Auburn baseball on twitter at twitter.com/AUTigerBaseball.
