With the first pitch of the 2011 season just days away, the defending SEC Western Division Champion Auburn baseball team has been picked to finish third in the division in the 20th annual preseason SEC poll as voted on by the league's 12 baseball coaches. Auburn, which finished 43-21 last season and won the SEC West with a 20-10 mark, were picked behind LSU and Arkansas in the West. Following Auburn was Ole Miss, Alabama and Mississippi State, respectively. Auburn returns 18 players that were part of the Division-winning club which was predicted to finish fifth in the 2010 preseason poll. Florida, which is ranked No. 1 nationally in multiple preseason polls, was predicted to win both the Eastern Division and the overall title. The rest of the East was Vanderbilt, defending National Champion South Carolina, Kentucky, Georgia and Tennessee, respectively. Points were compiled on a 6-5-4-3-2-1 basis for each division. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team. Each coach also voted for one team as an overall conference champion. Auburn opens the season on Friday, Feb. 18 at 6pm when it plays host to Arkansas State at Plainsman Park.
