Auburn Welcomes Maine To Plainsman Park For Opening Weekend 2013
Daniel Koger gets the Opening Day nod for the Tigers

Feb. 13, 2013

The Auburn baseball team opens up the 2013 season this Friday at 3pm when it plays host to Maine in the first game of a four-game series between the two teams. The teams will also play a noon doubleheader on Saturday and close out the weekend at 11am on Sunday.

Auburn has announced that sophomore left-hander Daniel Koger will get the Opening Day nod. Sophomore right-hander Rocky McCord and junior left-hander Michael O'Neal will split the starting duties in the Saturday twinbill. Auburn will wait until after Saturday's doubleheader to announce its Sunday starter.

Maine will start right-hander Tommy Lawrence on Friday and left-hander Scott Heath in Saturday's opener. It has not determined a starter for game two of the doubleheader but will throw right-hander Mike Connolly in the series finale.

The weekend series is a rematch of a 1976 College World Series contest and that is the lone time the two programs have faced off. Maine was the winner 37 years ago, knocking Auburn out of the CWS by a 9-8 count.

Friday's game is a FourSquare Friday and the first 1,000 fans into the game will receive a schedule poster. Saturday's game is a Hoops Special where fans can exchange their men's basketball vs. Florida ticket stub at the Auburn Arena Ticket Office of the Plainsman Park ticket booth following the basketball game for a free ticket to the baseball game. Sunday is Family Day where fans can buy three tickets and get one free (advance purchase only) and there will be a post-game autograph session.
