AUBURN -- Receiver Jaylon Denson is making a move on offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee's depth chart.

Denson, who has one career catch at Auburn, is playing slot receiver and is taking a shot on the outside, too.

"I know I can count on him. We're moving him around a little bit. He can handle it. He's making plays," Lashlee said. "I definitely see his role increasing."

Denson started spring as an inside receiver, but "we moved him outside today."

"He's picking that up just fine," Lashlee said.

Lashlee said Denson, center Reese Dismukes and tight end C.J. Uzomah have been the most consistent offensive players."

Auburn will hold its first real scrimmage of the spring Saturday in Jordan-Hare Stadium. Lashlee says the first thing he'll be looking for is "attention to detail and discipline. We're in our sixth day in, and we're still too inconsistent.

"The second thing is mental toughness. Their attitude is great and they're giving what they think is all they got, but we've got to learn to push ourselves."

Lashlee said quarterbacks Kiehl Frazier and Jonathan Wallace have been "very inconsistent with their accuracy." And when it comes to the fast-pace offense, "neither one of them are processing the information fast enough. I need them to process the information quicker.

"We've got to improve at a quicker pace."

Lashlee, who has said he's in no rush to name a starting quarterback, didn't indicate he'd have one now, or maybe at the end of spring.

"I don't see at this point where we say 'this guy' is the starter. Right now, I don't see a lot of separation," Lashlee said.

He said he's not worried about that. "We've been in this situation before."
