Auburn, Ala. - Athlon Sports has announced Kameron McDaniel, a senior at Auburn University, as the winner of its 2009 Sideline Spirit Contest.

More than 950,000 total votes were cast for the contestants, who represented 25 different colleges and universities from all major conferences. McDaniel, a member of the dance team, won the Grand Prize after receiving over 80,000 final round votes.

The Auburn University dance team will receive $2,000 in cash, a JVC HD Everio Camera and a JVC Micro System with iPod Dock. McDaniel will receive national exposure in her own photo spread, which will be featured in the 2010 Athlon Sports College Football annuals.

This was the seventh year for The Athlon Sports Sideline Spirit Contest and is the first time Auburn University has been named the winner. Previous winners include: University of Kentucky, University of Cinicinatti and the University of North Texas.

The four-round competition featured cheerleaders or dancers in each round (one from each BCS conference and one non-BCS representative).

Voters had the opportunity to show their school spirit by selecting their favorite spirit contestant. Once again, the Sideline Spirit Contest has proved to be one of the most popular programs on Athlon Sports website.
