AUBURN — Auburn University t-shirts are headed to Oklahoma after a call for action was sounded following the destructive tornadoes that swept through that state last month.
Auburn is donating more than 500 shirts after the University of Oklahoma asked for help in providing assistance to those who were affected by the tornados that hit Moore, Okla., and other areas on May 20. Twenty-three people were killed and approximately 12,000 homes were destroyed or damaged.
The University of Oklahoma opened its dorms to those who displaced. The school said it would welcome donations as well.
"Though it may seem like a small gesture, these items will care with them the hope, love, faith and assurance that our fellow Oklahomans will not be suffering though this alone," wrote Renata Hays, Oklahoma's assistant athletics director for branding and licensing.
Auburn boxed up the shirts and sent them on their way Friday.
