Auburn junior guard DeWanna Bonner and junior high jumper Raevan Harris were the special guest speakers at Cary Woods Elementary School on Tuesday. Bonner and Harris spoke to the 75 second-graders about the upcoming 2008 Olympics, their training and goals and being a collegiate student-athlete.
Bonner, a two-time gold medalist as a member of Team USA's U20 and U21 FIBA Americas Championship teams, told the students to stay focused on their school work and to make sure they do their homework so they can participate in sports, if they choose. She also showed the students one of her USA basketball jerseys.
Harris, who just won the high jump at the SEC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, showed the students the gold medal she received and emphasized the importance of listening to your parents and teachers. She also spoke to them about her preparations for the upcoming Olympic Trials.
After taking questions from the students, Bonner and Harris gave each student an Auburn Pride Sportsmanship bracelet to encourage them to always practice good sportsmanship.
