AUBURN, Ala. - Auburn cross country junior distance runner Brenda Kigen is set to compete at the NCAA Cross Country National Championships held Saturday at the E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Ky.
Kigen will run in the women’s 6k beginning at 9:45 am CT. Live stats will be available here.
“Qualifying for nationals is always a difficult task, so I’m extremely proud of Brenda for executing her best race when it mattered the most,” assistant cross country and track and field coach David Barnett said. “Training is going well and she’s excited to race.”
This will be Kigen’s second appearance at the NCAA Championships. As a freshman, the Eldoret, Kenya, product finished 54th on the same course she will run on Saturday with a time of 20:33.2, finishing in the top-10 among all freshmen.
Kigen qualified for the championships after finishing fourth at the NCAA South Regional in Tuscaloosa, Ala. on Nov. 10, with a time of 19:46.2 in the 6k. The Regional finish was one of three top-five finishes for the junior this season, as she placed third at the Bulldog SEC Preview in the 6k (21:29.1) and won the Crimson Classic 6k, her first cross country win of her career, with a time of 20:23.4.
